Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Recreation Skateboard Instructor in Parks and Recreation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Summer Recreation Skateboard Instructor leads recreation programs for a variety of age groups. The Instructor designs activities within a planned curriculum and supports persons with disabilities in programs (e.g. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medications, etc.) - may be required to develop a specific program plan. Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as greeting participants, leading activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities, participating in staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Skateboarding or cycling skills and experience
- At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children/youth in a recreational setting
- At least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skills
- Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development an asset
- Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:- Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
- Successful completion of all training requirements (Including High Five and WHMIS) prior to start date
- Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal – June 30th, 2026 to August 28th, 2026
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.
SALARY: Non Union; $18.75 per hour(plus 4% vacation pay)
WORK LOCATION: Captain Spry Community Centre, Citadel Community Centre, Dartmouth North Recreation Centre.
