The Strathcona Hotel, in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia is looking for a full-time Events and Communications Coordinator to join our team! Due to the nature of this position you must be available to work weekends and some nights.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Promote company goals, including overseeing all social media, ads, and media outreach.
  • Ensure all content aligns with our brand and identity, connect with Operations Manager with any marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for writing, proofreading, and editing creative and technical content across all media platforms, websites, and news releases.
  • Supervise all aspects of social media interactions, ensuring proper training is done so that customers receive a satisfactory experience.
  • Maintain a social media presence across all of the Strath’s platforms. Running regular specials, promotions, and campaigns amongst platforms.
  • Oversee all calendars, keep them up to date, and track all relevant information for each event.
  • Be the office admin, connecting customers to the correct outlet via our website (info@strathconahotel), social media, email, or phone call.
  • Be the liaison with relevant partners, (reps, students, stage managers, promo teams, etc.) for any in house or social media promotions
  • Manage various email campaigns, via mail chimp, for relevant events (VIP openers, Strath League, Events calendar)
  • Communicate all internal and external promotions with relevant staff
  • Work with in house Graphic Designer/Brand manager to develop and create marketing materials. Including but not limited to: menus, posters, social media content, handbills, tickets, and cover cards
  • Ability to learn and execute complex printing jobs
  • Keep stock of the menus, print more if need be, and communicate to graphics if there needs to be edits made
  • Run/organize Strath League, communicate to keep people engaged, encourage new memberships, and giveaways monthly
  • Engaging with customers, public speaking, and talking on a microphone
  • Manage inventory of prizing.
  • Prep green room for bands/performances; ensure it is clean and stock with water bottles.
  • Communicate with the lighting and sound techs, send over all rider info as well as what type of show it is.
  • Collect the relevant room rental fees from groups, manage ticket prices at the door.

Skills: * ● Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, especially writing and editing content * with an attention to detail. * ● Strong project management, organizational and analytical skills. * ● Ability to work and manage responsibilities autonomously while still collaborating with teams * ● Thorough understanding of marketing strategies on traditional and digital platforms * (especially email, social media, and website). * ● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and sustain relationships and rapport. * ● Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems * quickly and effectively. * Qualifications and Experience: * ● 2-3 years’ experience in communications and / or social media management roles. * ● Proficient in various marketing and analytics tools such as Google Suite, Google Ads, Google * Analytics, Facebook Business Manager, Canva, MailChimp and social media management * softwares (bonus points for Buffer or Later). * ● Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office. * ● Proven success as an event planner or coordinator. * ● Must have flexible availability, will be required to work weekends and some nights.
