Job description

About Us:

VetWise (formerly Smart.Vet) is a provider of telehealth services in the veterinary industry, offering innovative solutions to pet care. Our mission is to deliver accessible, high-quality care to pets and their owners through a virtual environment. Over 70% of pet health concerns can be effectively addressed through virtual consultations, allowing us to provide timely and convenient care.

We are dedicated to collaborating with animal hospitals by enhancing their in-person services, extending care availability and easing the workload on brick-and-mortar practices. Our goal is to support overburdened hospitals by providing patient care when it's needed most, whether during regular hours or after. We’re not here to compete—we're here to collaborate. While we've grown, we maintain a "mom and pop" culture and mentality, valuing personal relationships, and fostering a close-knit, supportive work environment.

The Opportunity:

VetWise is expanding and seeking seasonal part-time passionate, remote Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT’s) to join our growing team in Ontario over our busy summer months! This role allows you to utilize your RVT skills to support pet owners, enhance access to care, and reduce the workload for veterinary hospitals.

Your Role:

  • Conduct Remote Patient Triage and Support: Assess pet symptoms and medical histories through teletriage, helping determine the level of care needed, direct pet owners to appropriate next steps, whether emergency care or telemedicine consultation.

  • Client Education and Support: Provide compassionate support and answer questions about managing symptoms or administering medication after a consultation has been completed.

  • Coordinate Follow-Up Care and Appointments: Schedule follow-up appointments or check-ins and coordinate referrals to in-person clinics when necessary for further diagnostics or treatment.

  • Document and Update Patient Records: Accurately record patient histories and client interactions in the system to maintain up-to-date medical records for continuity of care.

  • Provide Emergency Virtual Triage: Offer immediate virtual triage assistance for urgent cases, assessing whether the situation requires emergency intervention and advising clients on first steps until they can reach in-person care.

  • Technical Support for Virtual Consultations: Ensure clients are prepared for virtual consultations by providing guidance on using the Smart.Vet platform and troubleshooting any issues to maintain a smooth consultation process.

Our Requirements:

  • Must hold an active registration in Ontario and be a current member in good standing with the OAVT.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician/ Technologist (RVT)

  • Minimum of 1 year of direct customer service experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be proficient in using technology (i.e. skilled in navigating computers, managing virtual consultations, and using telehealth platforms to deliver high-quality veterinary care remotely)

  • Must have a quiet dedicated workspace at home including reliable high speed internet access, laptop or desk top computer

  • Capable of exercising sound judgment and problem-solving independently in a remote setting, including the ability to assess urgent situations and determine appropriate next steps

  • Must be available to work on weekends

  • Must be able to successfully pass an internet speed test

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a growing, innovative company that values a "mom and pop" approach to teamwork and relationships

  • Work remotely from the comfort of your home

Schedule

  • Part-time Seasonal Role (April - September)

  • This role requires recurring Saturday and or Sunday shifts

Location

  • Remote - Registered in the province of Ontario

If you are a compassionate, skilled RVT with a passion for expanding access to veterinary care and supporting pet owners and veterinary teams alike, we invite you to apply! Submit your resume and complete our pre-screening questions to take the first step toward joining our family at VetWise.
