Our machine building client in Toronto, ON is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design, detailing, testing, commissioning, and customer support phases of custom automated equipment projects. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, on-time electrical designs that meet customer specifications and production schedules.
What You’ll Do
- Design and detail electrical control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan
- Develop and modify electrical drawings based on past projects and new customer requirements
- Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and source appropriate electrical components
- Program and troubleshoot PLC & HMI systems (multi-platform)
- Design and integrate motion control systems (servos, VFDs), safety
- Commission and install automated equipment at customer sites
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during testing and warranty support
- Manage engineering documentation, testing records, calculations, and project files
- Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) within required timelines
- Support Master Production Schedule milestones and meet project budget timelines
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, electrical shop, and production teams
- Mentor junior team members and uphold ISO and safety standards
What You Bring
- Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology (controls focus)
- 5+ years of electrical controls design experience with project ownership
- Strong PLC & HMI programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens STEP 7, or CODESYS)
- Experience designing servo and VFD-based motion control systems
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and equipment integration skills
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and perform field measurements (multimeter, oscilloscope)
- Strong time management and project execution capabilities
- P.Eng designation considered an asset
