As the Data and AI Governance Specialist at ENMAX Corporation, you will play a crucial role in advancing enterprise data and AI strategy by leading the change and enablement efforts and contributing to the development of governance frameworks, establishing data protection standards, and ensuring compliance with AI ethics and regulatory requirements. Your initiatives will directly support ENMAX’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence by building a secure, trusted, and AI-ready data backbone for the organization.
This role enables secure, compliant, and trusted use of enterprise data and AI by operationalizing governance controls and processes across Data and AI platforms, Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps at ENMAX. This role implements and continuously improves data classification, protection, retention, risk posture management, and investigation workflows to support responsible data sharing and AI adoption across the organization. The individual in this role takes a pragmatic and enablement approach to data and AI governance by driving governance practices across structured and unstructured data systems and AI systems.
Major Responsibilities:
Envision AI Ready Data: Design and enable governance frameworks for unstructured data that support emerging AI cases, ensuring adherence to responsible AI and data governance principles and compliance to existing and emerging AI and data privacy regulations
Enable AI visibility and protections (recommended policies, AI activity insights, AI-focused risk assessments) and coordinate with stakeholders to reduce oversharing in AI scenarios.
Enable Change: Lead training efforts and strategic initiatives to foster adoption of new frameworks, and capabilities within the enterprise AI strategy, enabling teams to integrate appropriate governance controls into AI delivery lifecycle
Deliver and continuously improve AI enablement services aligned to ENMAX’s AI Strategy, AI Standard, and risk appetite
Establish and operate the enterprise AI Agent and AI Solution inventory, including discovery, registration, classification, and lifecycle status management. Work with solution owners to assess and mitigate risks
Facilitate AI intake and evaluation activities by helping business teams understand AI options, risks, and required governance steps
Coordinate AI compliance and risk management activities, including risk tiering, documentation, decision support, and escalation to appropriate governance forums
Establish and maintain information protection controls (classification and labeling standards, publishing approaches, insider risk, protection behaviors) using Microsoft Purview Information Protection sensitivity labels, including integration considerations with cloud apps.
Run and mature data security posture management (DSPM) by monitoring dashboards, interpreting posture insights, and driving remediation actions to reduce sensitive data exposure across the digital estate.
Contribute to enterprise governance standards and council effectiveness by producing practical guidance, adoption toolkits, and metrics aligned to the Practice Lead’s mandate as the center-of-enablement for governance.
Monitor cloud discovery and app governance insights for non-compliant or risky apps; partner with security teams to recommend appropriate governance and remediation actions.
Deliver data and AI governance training programs for both business and technical stakeholders to promote comprehensive understanding and adherence to data governance standards.
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data/Analytics, Business, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Relevant certifications such as, SC-400 (Information Protection), SC-300/Entra fundamentals, SC-900, or equivalent experience would be considered an asset.
Qualifications:
7+ years experience in data governance, security/compliance operations, risk management, or related roles (including hands-on policy/process implementation).
2+ years experience implementing or administering Microsoft Purview capabilities such as Data Governance, Information Protection (sensitivity labels), and Data Lifecycle Management (retention) experiences.
Knowledge of industry data and AI governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA, EDM Association DCAM, NIST AI RMF etc.).
Expertise in data privacy regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management
Experience with enterprise grade governance programs involving structured and unstructured data.
Experience supporting data security posture and/or incident workflows, including investigation support and remediation coordination.
Experience with SaaS security visibility and app governance concepts; exposure to Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders and produce practical standards, job aids, and operational runbooks aligned to a central enablement function.

Salary: Analyst, Level C (Current CUPE rates)
$99,626.44 - $105,855.57 - $112,084.70 - $118,313.83 - $124,542.96
Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) workforce with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will have the opportunity to work from home on Mondays and Fridays and will be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
