YOUR OPPORTUNITY
Under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources, and guided by a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the HR Advisor provides a range of administrative HR services to client departments at OISE. Working closely with the Director and Senior HR Consultant, the HR Advisor supports both unionized and non-unionized employee groups and provides guidance on recruitment, salary administration, job evaluation, and employee relations. Typical responsibilities will also include ensuring compliance with the hiring provisions of applicable collective agreements and employment policies; leading the development and implementation of effective talent acquisition strategy, playing a key role in the onboarding of new staff, and collaborating with others on HR planning efforts within client departments.
In addition to core responsibilities, the HR Advisor will also take on projects and undertake research on a wide variety of issues and topics related to administrative human resources at OISE. The responsibilities of the incumbent will continuously evolve, requiring flexibility, and a willingness to respond to the given priorities of the day. The HR Advisor will work collaboratively and cooperatively in a dynamic environment and as priorities evolve, demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and sound judgment in responding to emerging needs and opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- University degree with a specialization in Human Resources or an equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent client service orientation and demonstrated initiative, tact, diplomacy and discretion;
- Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion;
- Three years’ experience managing full-cycle recruitment in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrated experience sourcing candidates, including the passive job seeker;
- Experience writing clear and compelling job postings and effective interview questions;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a consultative team environment and independently;
- Political acumen and ability to interact with senior managers and academic administrators in a manner that facilitates cooperation and achieves consensus;
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, applicant tracking systems and LinkedIn;
- Professional and polished presenter, with excellent oral, written communication and active listening skills;
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and project management skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work while managing competing deadlines;
- Experience with or ability to quickly grasp requirements of collective agreements and recruitment policies and practices of the University of Toronto; highly skilled at providing value-added strategic advice aligned with employment legislation and internal policies and procedures;
- Ability to manage competing demands, accept feedback, and be adaptable and flexible;
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
ASSETS:
