YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
We are looking for a Facilities Manager in 90 Gough Rd, Markham, ON L3R 5V5 CAN. Your mission will be to:
Ensure the continuous operation and peak efficiency of critical building systems, including HVAC, MUA units, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, and specialized water systems.
Guarantee all laboratory-specific utilities meet rigorous technical requirements and regulatory standards.
Maintain a detailed registry of facility equipment and assets, overseeing the calibration and servicing of vital infrastructure.
Design and execute proactive maintenance schedules to mitigate risks and minimize operational downtime.
Support the planning and lead the execution of facility upgrades, including laboratory expansions, infrastructure renovations, and equipment installations.
Evaluate, recommend, and manage service contracts (, janitorial, waste, security, HVAC) to ensure high-performance standards and cost-effectiveness.
Act as the primary representative for the company with municipal authorities to secure permits and ensure full compliance with local building codes.
Encourage strict adherence to Health & Safety (H&S) policies and environmental regulations across all facility operations.
Participate in recurring safety audits of laboratory spaces, equipment, and storage areas, with a specific focus on hazardous material and waste management.
Maintain records regarding safety certifications, environmental permits, and building code compliance.
Partner with Management to develop and monitor facility budgets, including utility management and long-term capital expenditure (CapEx) planning.
Provide direct supervision and operational guidance to facility personnel across multiple locations.
Audit vendor performance against company procurement and quality benchmarks.
Other related duties as assigned.
At any time, the incumbent must behave and operate in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner.
YOUR PROFILE
Post-secondary education in a related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
A minimum of 5 years previous property/facilities management experience is recommended.
This position requires experience and familiarity with various trades to oversee facility construction and maintenance.
Ability to handle general administration of the properties, or when otherwise called upon is necessary to effectively perform the responsibilities of this position.
Strong written and verbal communications skills, with ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Strong knowledge of building MEP and HVAC systems is an asset.
Oversees local facilities personnel at sites. Previous management experience is an asset.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The incumbent works in an administrative office and laboratory settings with proper lighting and temperature control. Protective gear is needed while within the laboratory, such as eye protection, gloves and laboratory coat.
Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Physical dexterity is necessary to effectively manipulate a keyboard.
Some activities require the incumbent to work outside in various weather conditions. Physical skills include manipulating hand and power tools, operating mechanical devices, and climbing ladders.
Incumbents occasionally lift heavy or bulky objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Incumbent must have and maintain class G drivers licence in good standing, and access to a vehicle with ability to visit all locations.
This role requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate project deadlines and business needs.
Compensation Package Overview:
Compensation Range: $88,000 - 110,000 CAD per year
Potential bonus: Up to 10% based on performance.
