Radio Operator Fire Ranger 2 FR2 Fire Ranger 2 Departmental 24 Weeks April to September Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures Wildfire Service, Conservation and Wildfire The Pas MB Advertisement Number: Salary(s): FR2 $1,.40 - $1,.60 bi-weekly Plus Remoteness Allowance and Qualification Pay, if applicable. Duties: The Regional Fire Centre Radio Operator will be involved with the day to day operation of the Western Region Forest Fire Centre. The Fire Centrecan be a fast paced environment that will require the incumbent to multitask with a very high degree of proficiency.

The incumbent will require a high level of organizational skills to prioritize critical incoming information in relation to forest fire activity on a day to day basis. They will be responsible for monitoring and operating a 2-way radio network; aircraft flight following; recording radio transmissions; compiling daily reports and computer data entry; assisting in the processing, filing, photocopying of accounts and payroll journals; and typing related correspondence. Qualifications: Essential:
  • Experience using office equipment including fax machines, telephones, and computer software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, multitask environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
Desired:
  • Experience operating a 2-way radio network and possession of a Radio Operators certificate.
  • Experience working in a Fire or command centre operation.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence or equivalent.
  • Prepared to travel anywhere in Manitoba for periods up to 24 days.
  • Willing and able to work weekends weekends and extended hours on short notice.
