Position Overview

Matrix is seeking experienced independent professionals to join our contractor network as Technology Strategists & Advisors.

Contractors receive project-based assignments from Matrix based on individual client Work Orders. Assignments may involve technology strategy, digital transformation, enterprise systems, cybersecurity strategy, technology governance, technology-risk assessment, technology evaluation, implementation planning or other authorized strategic technology advisory services.

This is a senior-level advisory role suited to experienced technology professionals who can assess complex environments, advise executive stakeholders and develop practical technology strategies that support organizational objectives.

Clients may include law firms, healthcare organizations, government ministries and agencies, professional practices, corporations, regulated organizations and other institutions where technology, confidentiality, security, privacy and operational resilience are important considerations.

Assignments may be performed remotely or may require attendance at client locations for executive meetings, technology assessments, workshops, stakeholder engagement, implementation planning or other project requirements.

Depending on the assignment, contractors may work independently or collaborate with Matrix advisors, technical specialists, project managers and authorized client stakeholders.

The contractor is responsible for independently determining the manner, method, sequence and tools used to complete an assignment, subject to the applicable client Work Order, required deliverables, agreed timelines, confidentiality and security requirements, and client-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate legacy systems, enterprise applications, infrastructure and technology dependencies.
  • Identify opportunities for modernization, optimization and operational improvement.
  • Develop practical recommendations aligned with organizational objectives, available resources and identified risks.
  • Consider scalability, resilience, security, privacy and long-term sustainability when developing technology recommendations.

  • cybersecurity strategy;
  • data governance;
  • technology risk; and
  • technology investment priorities.

Prepare executive briefings, strategic recommendations, technology assessments, risk-related reports and other advisory materials within the scope of the Work Order.

Consultants provide technology and operational perspectives. They do not provide legal opinions, legal advice or determinations regarding a client's legal rights, obligations or compliance with law.

  • Consider organizational readiness, adoption and operational impacts.
  • Support change-management and technology-adoption initiatives where included in the Work Order.

Technology Risk, Privacy & Governance

  • Assess technology-related security and operational risks.
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding cybersecurity and information-security priorities.
  • Evaluate technology controls and risk-management approaches.
  • Support data-governance and information-management initiatives.
  • Identify technology-related privacy and data-protection considerations.
  • Develop technology-risk assessments and strategic recommendations.
  • Support practical technology-risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify areas where the client should obtain advice from legal, privacy, cybersecurity or other appropriately qualified professionals.

Consultants may identify technology-related risks and requirements but do not provide legal or regulatory opinions or certify that a client is legally or regulatory compliant.

Enterprise Systems & Technology Evaluation

Evaluate technology solutions based on documented client requirements, which may include:

  • enterprise applications;
  • legal practice and case-management systems;
  • healthcare information systems;
  • document-management platforms;
  • records-management systems;
  • CRM systems;
  • workflow and automation platforms;
  • cybersecurity technologies;
  • cloud platforms;
  • collaboration systems; and
  • other specialized institutional technologies.

Provide objective, vendor-neutral recommendations based on technology, operational, security and implementation considerations.

Vendor Evaluation & Procurement Support

Where included within the Work Order:

  • Assist with technology requirements gathering.
  • Support vendor evaluation and technology-selection processes.
  • Develop or review technical evaluation criteria.
  • Assist with RFP and procurement documentation from a technology and operational perspective.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals based on technical and project requirements.
  • Support technology implementation governance.
  • Identify technology, security, operational or integration considerations.
  • Assist with vendor-management and implementation reviews.

Consultants do not provide legal contract advice or legal contract review. Legal terms, contractual rights, obligations and negotiations remain with the client's appropriately qualified legal or professional advisor.

Contractors do not have authority to make contractual commitments on behalf of Matrix or the client unless specifically authorized in writing.

Technology Investment & Cost Optimization

  • Assess technology investments in relation to organizational objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for technology optimization and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate potential technology costs, resource requirements and implementation considerations.
  • Assist clients in prioritizing technology initiatives.
  • Support business-case development and technology investment analysis.

  • Maintain appropriate project documentation.
  • Provide agreed status updates and deliverables.
  • Identify matters requiring clarification, authorization or client direction.
  • Complete agreed deliverables within established project parameters.

Depending on the Work Order, assignments may require attendance at:

  • law firms;
  • government ministries and agencies;
  • healthcare organizations;
  • corporate offices;
  • professional practices;
  • technology facilities;
  • institutional locations; and

Contractors manage their assigned projects independently and are responsible for determining the manner, method, sequence and tools used to perform the work, subject to the applicable Work Order, required deliverables, agreed timelines, confidentiality obligations, security requirements and client-specific requirements.

Matrix provides the client relationship, assignment scope and required deliverables. Contractors independently manage the execution of their assignments and use Matrix's designated online project-management and collaboration platform to receive Work Orders, access assignment information, provide status updates and collaborate with Matrix and authorized client contacts as required.

Contractors may accept assignments based on their availability, qualifications, experience and capacity.

Contractors are responsible for maintaining the professional capabilities, equipment, technology, transportation and other resources necessary to perform their assignments, except where otherwise agreed for a specific project.

Contractors are responsible for their own applicable taxes, government remittances, insurance, business expenses and other obligations arising from their independent business activities.

Nothing in the contractor relationship creates an employment, partnership, joint-venture or agency relationship between the contractor and Matrix or the client.

Work Environment

Assignments may be:

  • fully remote;

  • project-site based; or
  • a combination of remote and in-person work.

  • Opportunity to apply specialized expertise across different client engagements.
  • A professional network focused on quality, confidentiality, reliability and client service.

Our Approach

Matrix values independent professional expertise combined with practical, implementation-ready advice.

Our Technology Strategists & Advisors are expected to bring their own professional experience, strategic perspective and methodology to each engagement while remaining aligned with the client's approved objectives, deliverables and project requirements.

We seek advisors who can look beyond individual technologies and understand how people, processes, technology, risk, governance and organizational objectives must work together to create sustainable results.

Our approach is vendor-neutral, practical and implementation-focused, helping clients make informed technology decisions while recognizing when matters should be referred to the client's appropriately qualified legal, regulatory, privacy, cybersecurity or other professional advisors.

Professional Boundaries & Scope of Services

Matrix provides non-legal technology, administrative, operational and strategic consulting services.

Technology Strategists & Advisors may identify technology-related considerations involving privacy, security, governance, risk, regulatory requirements or industry standards. However, they do not:

  • provide legal advice or legal opinions;
  • provide legal representation;
  • interpret legislation or regulations for a client;
  • determine whether a client is legally compliant;
  • provide legal strategy;
  • negotiate or provide legal advice regarding contracts;
  • provide regulated professional advice outside their qualifications and authorized scope; or
  • make legal, regulatory or professional determinations on behalf of a client.

Where a project raises a question requiring legal or other regulated professional judgment, the matter must be referred to the client's appropriately qualified professional.

The consultant's role is to provide technology expertise, strategic analysis, operational recommendations and implementation guidance within the scope of the applicable Work Order.
