Health PEI was created in July 2010, marking a major step toward realizing a One Island Health System that provides Islanders with the right care, by the right provider, in the right place.Headquartered inCharlottetown,Prince Edward Island, Health PEI is the single health authority responsible for the delivery of publicly-funded health services in Prince Edward Island, Canada.Itoperates hospitals, health centres, extended term care homes, addiction facilities and primary care sites among other facilities throughout the province while providing a wide variety of programs and services. The Health PEI Board of Directorsgoverns the agency, is accountable to the Minister of Health and Wellness and works collectively on behalf of all Islanders to ensure the management and delivery of safe, quality health care.

The Provincial Department Head, Critical Care will lead the growth, integration, and stabilization of critical care services across two acute care facilities. With a focus on building a cohesive, high-performing physician team, the role will drive standardization of workflows, interchangeable service delivery, and data-informed decision-making. Through visible, hands-on leadership, the incumbent will foster collaboration, strengthen communication, and align goals to ensure seamless, high-quality care across sites. This is an opportunity to enhance access, expand services, and respond to evolving community needs through program review, process improvement, and innovation.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished physician leader in critical care with a strong background in internal medicine and healthcare management, ideally across multiple sites. You excel at navigating the complexities of acute care, building strong internal and external partnerships, and fostering collaborative, high-performing teams. With a systems-wide perspective, you can stabilize and support physicians, bridge historical differences, and drive service excellence. Forward-thinking and informed on evolving best practices, you are committed to expanding access, advancing academic partnerships, and ensuring the department meets the community’s needs through innovation, teamwork, and clear communication.

Last year, Health PEI focused on expanding community care, and the adoption of innovative healthcare solutions to improve efficiency and service quality.
