Compensation: $21.53 pre-probation, and $23.32 post-probation

About The Job:The Line Cook has the responsibility of ensuring high quality service standards in food preparation, production, presentation and control. This position prepares and serves high quality meals & nourishments for clients and guests of the community.
Job responsibilities:- Under direction of the Chef, the Line Cook prepares food items including soups, sauces, salads, starches, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables & desserts by methods/procedures including roasting, frying, grilling, steaming, poaching, boiling, baking and bulk re-thermalization.
- Tests food items for palatability and temperature & adjusts accordingly.
- Meets high quality service standards for all food preparation, production, presentation & control.
- Prepares service of catered and special event menu plans to ensure individual food service needs and standards for food service are met or exceeded.
- Responsible for opening and closing duties of the kitchen including cleaning duties within the kitchen area.
- Uses a creative and innovative approach in plating food and nourishments while following set recipes. Serves a variety of attractive and appetizing food to tenants and guests of the community.
- Assists with food service quality improvement activities including evaluation of food preparation & service standards.
- Ensures quality of and timeliness of food preparation and delivery to tenants and guests of the community while operating with a high level of customer service at all times.
- Interacts will all front and back of house staff in an efficient, courteous, respectful and friendly manner to fulfill food orders quickly and professionally.
- Ensures food and stores are prepared and maintained in accordance with all food safe and accepted kitchen standards.
- Assists the Chef with inventory and notifies Chef in advance of likely shortages.
- Ensures kitchen environment is in safe and sanitary condition at all times by washing and disinfecting kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
- Keep kitchen workstations clean, maintained and clear of any obstructions.
- Hold high standard for cleanliness, food production quality, and personal hygiene.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Certification Requirements:
- At least 2 years recent kitchen experience or equivalent combination of education, training & experience may be considered.
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving, time management, practical and technical skills in food preparation and service.
- Ability of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
- Comfortable working both independently and with a team toward common goals.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Self-motivated and exhibits a strong desire for personal growth.
- Food Safe - Level I and WHMIS Certificates required.
