Camp Towhee/Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program treats youth with Mental Health issues complicated by Learning Disabilities.

Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee positively changes the trajectory of kids and staffs lives.

We provide 15 days of training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, CPI, mental health and learning disabilities.

Who we need The successful candidate should be a driven individual pursuing a career in healthcare, with a passion for caring for and supporting children/youth, and the capacity to adjust their approach to meet the physical and emotional needs of campers.

They are responsible for all the various health and wellness needs of our campers, and when needed staff.

They will oversee managing Camp Towhee’s Health Centre in its entirety.

The Healthcare Supervisor is also responsible for directly supervising and supporting the Healthcare Assistant in their duties.

The Healthcare Supervisor should be a team player, with experience in children’s healthcare and a passion for caring for and supporting children/youth.

They should have experience with the impacts of mental health and learning disabilities on personal health, and the capacity to educate and support others on the best approach to meeting the physical and emotional needs of campers.

As our new Healthcare Supervisor, you will: Providing ongoing medical and emotional care to campers, and staff when necessary, and acting as a primary first responder in more serious medical emergencies.

Discerning physical and psychosomatic distress and implementing the best intervention to match.

Providing mental and physical health education to campers and staff when necessary for their continued health and wellness.

Administering camper medications as required.

Organizing and running the Health Centre with the help of the Healthcare Assistant as per OCA and Camp Towhee policies and procedures.

Supervising the Healthcare Assistant, including supporting their professional development and providing written performance appraisals.

Perform as a part of the greater Towhee Supervisor Team, which includes the development of staff training, team building activities, providing general support to all staff members, assisting with decision making, risk management, and providing insight on a camper's physical, emotional, mental, and social state where applicable.

Assisting in other areas of the camp by providing direct support and supervision of campers during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime routines and night supervision as able.

Working as part of the overall staff team by participating in the planning and implementation of special, camp-wide theme programs and activities.

Adhering to and interpreting for other staff and campers about the policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Towhee You bring Minimum completion of two (2) years of a healthcare related post-secondary degree (nursing, paramedic, etc.), with three (3) or more years strongly preferred.

Practical experience in providing healthcare/first aid in roles such as lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement, etc Previous professional experience working within a camp environment is strongly preferred.

Experience working with children and/or youth.

Standard First Aid with CPR C or greater.

Must have/acquire a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.

Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Working Conditions Fast-paced camp environment with frequent interaction with campers, staff, supervisors, families, and visitors.

As needed, the requirement to lift children (up to 45 lbs.) and assist in the movement of children (up to 200lbs.) in a medical emergency, in addition to bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs.

Noise level can be moderate to loud.

Intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, running, lifting, and generally supporting campers and staff in camp activities and games.

Camp dates are as follows: Supervisors Training: June 15th - June 17th Departure date: June 18th, Transportation from Toronto to Towhee will be provide Pre-Camp, All Staff Training: June 19th - June 30th Session 1: July 4th - July 17th Session 2: July 20th - August 2nd Session 3: August 5th - August 18th Staff onsite for Cleanup: August 18th 12:00 PM until August 20th at 5:00 PM, Transportation form Towhee to Toronto will be provided Location: 1393 Camp Towhee Road, Haliburton, ON K0M 1S0 Round-trip bus transportation from Toronto to Haliburton will be provided at the beginning and end of the camp.

Contract Period Start date: June 14, 2026 Contract end date: August 20, 2026 Compensation: $7,000 for the term of employment, including a base salary of $4,950 plus a special completion bonus of $2,050 at the end of the contract.
