Located in North Saanich on 28 acres of forested hillside, Homewood Ravensview offers clients a comfortable and safe environment featuring serene ocean views from spacious rooms, welcoming common areas and a world-class team of physicians, psychiatrists, counsellors and 24-hour nursing professionals.

As an Associate Counsellor, you will be an integral part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. In this role you will provide patient-centered treatment, rehabilitation, and support for individuals with mental illness and addiction disorders. This role focuses on creating a safe, dignified environment and involves operationalizing psycho-educational and group schedules, facilitating groups, conducting individual sessions to aid patients' understanding of group materials, and assisting in developing personalized care plans.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized, person-centered care plans
  • Administer psychometric surveys and support Measurement-Based Care initiatives
  • Observe and report changes in patient behavior, physical, or cognitive status
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and records
  • Respond to crisis situations using trauma-informed and non-violent intervention techniques
  • Ensure adherence to safety, infection control, and organizational policies
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold strict patient confidentiality
  • Contribute to a clean, safe, and respectful treatment environment

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Health Care, Addictions, Education, or a related field (Master’s candidate preferred)
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification for Health Care Providers (Level 1 or greater)
  • Two years recent related experience in a community mental health and/or substance use setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience working in a relevant related industry such as police, fire, military or paramedic
  • Demonstrated ability to apply clinical and critical thinking expertise, organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with others
  • Knowledge of substance misuse and of problems encountered by chemically dependent individuals
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery principles, mental health treatment, and basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) concepts
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with patients as well as observe and recognize changes in patients
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behavior and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community from COVID-19, and as required by BC Health Authorities, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Ravensview requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.

Compensation is influenced by many factors including compensation principles or approach for a role or job function, organizational tenure, experience, qualifications or premium skills, external competitiveness, internal comparability, geography and work performance. The salary range for this role $ 49,638 - $ 62,054.
