Terus Construction is an integrated road construction and materials manufacturing company, which has been building roads in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory for over 30 years through decentralized business centers.

Road construction, asphalt paving, aggregate production, hot mix asphalt and ready-mix concrete supply are the core activities. In addition, the Company acts as general contractor on civil construction projects, including excavation, utilities, concrete placement, sidewalks, and curbs, and in all kind of road construction related activities.

Over 800 jobs every year are performed through more than 20 decentralized business centers, such as highway rehabilitation, airport construction, industrial, municipal and commercial work, subdivisions. More than 550 employees are locally employed.

Position Summary

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a Paving Foreman to join our team in Prince George, BC.

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Paving Foreman will play a pivotal role in asphalt paving operations, leading crews and ensuring high standards of quality control. The role will act as the primary liaison between site workers, the project manager/coordinator, and the superintendent. The Paving Foreman is responsible for ensuring that tasks are executed skillfully and efficiently, while also adhering to project and construction schedules. This position is a working foreman, who works alongside the crew.

Safety

  • Demonstrate commitment to Terus-CWCI health, safety, and environment policies by adhering to these policies and promoting a culture of safety in all activities conducted.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work with Superintendent to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Terus Safety Program.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Uphold and comply with the principles of the Terus Code of Ethics.

Construction Operations

  • Ensure project adherence to specifications.
  • Observe asphalt and subgrade quality to identify potential issues, implementing necessary corrections related to segregation, drainage, densities, and other quality concerns.
  • Assist in ensuring the availability and organization of materials and equipment for project needs.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing best practices for the efficient use of construction materials.
  • Ensure all company equipment is operated, maintained, and cared for in compliance with regulations.
  • Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Plan work in an efficient and timely manner, maximizing progress according to established schedules and milestones.
  • Prepare and submit incident and WCB reports within specified deadlines.
  • Administer and compile daily reports on crew and project activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and direct crew members, equipment, and resources for civil projects, large municipal projects, and road and highway development.
  • Ensure that all crew members follow safety measures and that quality standards are strictly adhered to on construction sites.
  • Apply the progressive disciplinary policy consistently and fairly among crew members if necessary.
  • Train and promote the development of crew members according to company standards and best practices.
  • Monitor site operations and promptly report any issues to the Superintendent or Project Manager to ensure timely resolution and smooth project progress.
  • Represent the company professionally in the community and maintain ongoing good business relationships with customer base and suppliers.

Experience and Knowledge Required for the Role

  • High school diploma or G.E.D/CAEC preferred
  • Experience within the road construction industry
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven track record of managing teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements.
  • Extensive experience in the paving industry and experience in the supervision of construction crews.
  • Ability to read and understand engineered plans and contract documents.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract.

Working Conditions

  • Travel required
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required
  • Willing to work in field and in all weather conditions
  • Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • This is a safety sensitive position; selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as required

This is a unionized position with an anticipated wage range of $49.05- $54 CAD an hour. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
