Job Summary


The Sexual Violence Prevention Educator leads campus-wide sexual violence prevention education strategies that promote a culture of consent by addressing attitudes and behaviours that support rape culture to create an inclusive environment for diverse populations of UBC faculty, staff, and students. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating sexual violence prevention education and training initiatives that support the successful implementation of UBC s Sexual Misconduct Policy (SC17). The Sexual Violence Prevention Educator collaborates with UBC faculty, staff, students, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that prevention education strategies are integrated and coordinated across campus units, departments, programming, and practices.

Organizational Status

The Sexual Violence Prevention Educator reports to the Director, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office and works collaboratively as a member of a team of professionals, leading the development and implementation of education and training initiatives that support the successful implementation of UBC s Sexual Misconduct Policy (SC17). The Sexual Violence Prevention Educator collaborates with UBC faculty, staff, students, and other relevant stakeholders to integrate and coordinate education and training initiatives across campus.


Work Performed

  • Develops and implements a campus-wide sexual violence prevention education strategy that promotes a culture of consent by addressing attitudes and behaviours that support rape culture to create an inclusive environment for diverse populations of UBC faculty, staff and students.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive education and training plan for the UBC Community about sexual violence, including prevention and response, in cooperation with UBC faculty, staff, students, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provides education and training about sexual violence and related issues including UBC s Sexual Misconduct Policy (SC17), and other relevant policies including, Discrimination Policy (SC7), Response to At-Risk Behaviour Policy (SC13), and the Respectful Environment Statement.
  • Provides education and training related to new issues arising in the field of sexual violence response and prevention to individuals, units, and departments involved in responding to disclosures of sexual violence.
  • Designs and delivers training curriculum and materials about sexual violence and related issues, utilizing multiple online and offline channels tailored to the needs of specific audiences including UBC faculty, staff, and students.
  • Coordinates educational programs, projects, and special events related to sexual violence prevention.
  • Develops and implements strategies, processes, plans, and programs that promote evidence-based approaches to sexual violence response and prevention education.
  • Recruits, trains, and supports faculty, staff, and students to provide peer-led prevention education and training.
  • Consults and collaborates with individuals, community groups, professional organizations, post-secondary educational institutions, government, and other partners to develop and deliver post-secondary education on sexual violence response and prevention.
  • Develops, supports, encourages, and promotes provincial, national, and international programs relevant to the position and to post-secondary institutions, in collaboration with other post-secondary educational institutions, off-campus agencies, and government departments.
  • Designs and conducts evaluation to assess performance of sexual violence education and training programs. Collects, analyzes, interprets, and reports on results and progress towards goals.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors social media strategies.
  • Creates, disseminates, and compiles results of campus climate surveys.
  • Interprets university policy regarding sexual violence, identifies areas for improvement, makes recommendations for change, and participates in review and revision of systems and protocols as appropriate.
  • Responds to individual disclosures of sexual violence by providing support and referrals based on individual needs.
  • Performs other duties as required.


    Consequence of Error/Judgement

    Exercises professional judgement in the provision of sexual violence prevention education, and acts as a cooperative team member in the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office. Poor professional judgment or practice may create undue hardship for prospective and current students, faculty, staff and visitors to UBC and/or serious public relations or legal liability for the University.

    -Supervision Received

    Works independently within University policies and procedures, and relevant Federal and Provincial legislation. Works within a collegial model of consultation and collaboration, under the direction of the Director, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office.

    May supervise project staff, practicum students, student employees and volunteers.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Graduate degree in a relevant discipline preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience developing education strategies and programming. Equivalent combination of lived experience, education, training, and work experience will be strongly considered.
  • Experience providing sexual violence prevention education in a post-secondary setting for diverse audiences using multiple platforms.
  • Experience in evaluating program delivery and impact.
  • Ability to develop and implement sexual violence prevention education that recognizes diverse the diversity of survivor experience due to sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, radicalization, age, family status, religion, faith, ability, disability, national or ethnic origin, Indigeneity, immigration status, socioeconomic status, class and language.
  • Demonstrated cultural competencies and intercultural communication skills to support work with a diverse community.
  • Ability to consider intercultural differences and adapt learning and communication approaches as necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, public speaking and presenting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goal.
  • Ability to design and implement organizational change initiatives, anticipate challenges, solve problems and deliver results.
  • Ability to plan ahead, direct the work of others, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ability to take direction, lead others and to function as an effective team member.
  • Ability to manage projects and multi task while paying attention to details.
  • Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required, as well as some travel.
