Reporting to the Municipal Engineer, the Summer Student, Assistant Project Supervisor position is responsible for:

• Assist in the provision of quality and quantity assurance duties during the construction of capital projects, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain installations, asphalt paving and concrete works (curbs and sidewalks), watermain lining, full road reconstruction projects, etc.
• Maintain detailed and accurate work records for construction projects.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and construction specifications.
• Act as a representative of the City of Cornwall and use outstanding public relations skills and maintain a professional image at all times.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Assist the City's Surveyor, Project Supervisors and/or Right-of-Way Technician as required.

Hours:
7:00AM to 4:00PM; 40 hours per week, plus overtime as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Full-time day student at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance the fall of 2026.
• Enrolled in a College or university level education in civil engineering or a related field.
• Must have Class G2 or G Driver’s License.

Asset Qualifications:

• Experience with the use of survey equipment is considered an asset.
• Experience related to construction is considered an asset.
• Bilingualism is considered an asset.

If selected for this role, you will need to provide:

• Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CRJMC (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check), at the candidate’s own expense.
• Must provide a satisfactory Drivers Abstract.
• Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
• Verification of school status

All Summer Students must be Full-time day students at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance in the fall of 2026.
