Do you want the opportunity to co-create with our experts on some of the most prestigious infrastructure projects in North America? Can you navigate the dynamic landscape of the market by adapting strategies swiftly, capitalizing on emerging opportunities, and mitigating risks? And are you motivated to accelerate growth, promote innovation, and deliver impactful solutions? Then, this could be your next career move.

Create the solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

In this role, you will be challenged to work every day on some of the most advanced bridges, ports and marine, and tunnels projects. You will be exposed to projects in North America working with colleagues across the globe who are highly skilled and deliver innovative solutions.

We are looking for a Leading Heavy Civil Structural Engineer specialized in structural design of complex heavy civil structures (bridges, tunnels, and/or marine structures) to join our highly skilled team of specialists that provides detailed engineering and project management on numerous infrastructure projects. Your primary tasks will be to provide technical knowledge and leadership on projects, support the project manager with project delivery on large multi-disciplinary projects or be the project manager on smaller-scale projects, and support overall business development efforts.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Act as Technical Lead for structural engineering on infrastructure projects, overseeing their delivery to ensure they are completed to the required quality standards and on the agreed time and budget.
  • Perform structural engineering work for all design phases, including concept, basic, and detailed engineering for different types of projects (inspection and maintenance, repair, expansion, new installations, and construction, etc.)
  • Conduct field work, site inspections, and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Perform Engineer of Record duties as required.
  • Prepare proposals, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for engineering projects
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups within COWI to develop and deliver integrated projects.
  • Maintain effective relationships with key clients to support growth.
  • Represent COWI in external settings, such as technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies, and business groups, as they pertain to marine infrastructure projects.
  • Mentor others on the team.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future

The first step to growth in this role is that you are willing to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a minimum of 12 years of related experience with structural engineering of heavy civil structures (bridges, tunnels, and/or marine structures).
  • A Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or can obtain
  • Effective delivery of structural projects for public and private clients
  • Knowledge & experience with Canadian codes for steel and concrete design, and familiarity with international structural codes and standards is an asset
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software (experience with BIM software or workflows would be considered an asset)
  • Project management and proposal writing experience
  • Be self-motivated, capable of managing change, and able to handle multiple tasks in a shifting environment
  • Be able to work with staff located remotely around the world.
