Who We Are

Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation is located at Francois Lake, British Columbia, with 4 reserves all located within 10 km of the south shore of Francois Lake. Nee Tahi Buhn is home to an ancient culture, a rugged history and a vibrant present. Our community is made up of approximately 140 members and we are committed to preserving and promoting our traditional language, culture and way of life.

At Nee Tahi Buhn, we strive to cultivate a positive environment in which members of all ages can learn, grow and thrive. We place a great deal of importance on preserving our culture and traditions, which are deeply embedded in our language, arts and ceremonies. Through language revitalization programs, and local sustainable social enterprise projects, we continue to honor our past and move towards a brighter future.

The Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation is guided by a dedicated team of leaders, including a Chief, two Councillors, and a Deputy Chief, all elected by our community to serve four-year terms. These leaders are committed to making decisions that benefit our community while ensuring that our cherished traditions and culture are preserved for future generations.

Overview of the Role

As the General Manager, you will lead the Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band Administration with a commitment to implementing the vision and goals of the Band while embodying and modeling its values and guiding principles. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for coordinating, reporting, and administering executive and administrative policies, and ensuring the effective delivery of all Band programs and services to the community. Reporting directly to Chief and Council, the General Manager will oversee financial operations, cultivate a positive work culture, supervise Band employees, and ensure the successful implementation of community programs and services. The successful candidate will also foster communication and connections within the community, contributing to the overall well-being and development of the Nee Tahi Buhn community.

Status : Permanent full-time

Schedule : Monday to Friday, some weekends and evenings

Other : Some travel will be required

Location : In-person is preferred, however there is a potential for a hybrid arrangement

Who You Are

You are a very strong people leader with the ability to build and lead collaborative, motivated, effective and efficient teams. You have a demonstrated history of developing accountable teams who contribute to an inclusive workplace environment.

You also bring a wealth of experience in financial management, creating, managing and balancing budgets keeping the long term vision in mind. You are also a strong administrator with a deep understanding of and respect for First Nations cultures, traditions, history and concerns, as well as a desire to uphold the Nee Tahi Buhn traditions and culture.

What You Will Do

Key Leadership and Priorities

  • Leadership and Team Building : Establish and prioritize building, leading, and maintaining strong, efficient, effective, and accountable teams within the organization.
  • Financial Stewardship : Focus on creating, implementing, and managing budgets in alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

Human Resources and Leadership

  • Team Leadership : Supervise, lead, mentor, and coach a team of 12+ Band employees, ensuring the development and implementation of effective work plans and clear performance expectations.
  • Employee Development : Provide ongoing training, support, and development opportunities to staff, fostering professional growth and capacity building.
  • Performance Evaluation : Regularly assess and evaluate staff performance, providing constructive feedback and addressing performance challenges proactively.
  • Conflict and Problem Resolution : Address and resolve conflicts promptly, employing empathy, compassion, and a solution-focused approach to achieve equitable outcomes for all parties involved.
  • Human Resources Practices : Update and implement the NTBB Human Resources Practices to ensure consistency, fairness and compliance with all relevant legislation.

    • Financial Management and Budget Oversight

  • Budget Creation : Create and implement an annual budget based on the strategic plan and operational needs.
  • Budget Management : Manage all financial operations, ensuring that all expenditures comply with budgetary guidelines and restrictions.
  • Financial Reporting : Provide accurate and timely financial reports to Council, highlighting fiscal performance and opportunities for improved financial efficiency.

    • Governance and Program Administration

  • Oversight of Programs and Services : Administer and oversee all Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band programs and services, ensuring strict compliance with Council directives, policies, laws, and by-laws in daily operations.
  • Meeting Facilitation and Support : Attend, support, and often facilitate Council Meetings, General Band Meetings, and Committee Meetings as required.
  • Council Committee Engagement : Serve as a non-voting Administrator on Council Committees, attending meetings as directed and providing administrative support to ensure alignment with strategic goals.

    • Service Delivery and Community Engagement

  • Program Delivery : Oversee the effective delivery of Band programs and services, including public works, housing, social services, education, and training initiatives.
  • Community Relations : Act as a liaison and public relations coordinator on administrative matters, engaging with community members, other First Nations, provincial and federal governments, municipalities, and other agencies to foster positive relationships and partnerships.

    • Strategic Development and Coordination

  • Community Development : Coordinate and lead community development initiatives to promote the Band’s social, economic, and cultural growth.
  • Conflict Resolution : Resolve project-related and high-level issues efficiently, ensuring alignment with the Band’s goals and values.
  • Resource Coordination : Identify and recommend legal and professional resources to represent the Band in actions as directed by Council.

    • What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration OR a Diploma in Business or Public Administration with three years experience OR 5 years of administration and management experience combined.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to create a strong, cohesive, collaborative team.
  • Strong financial management skills including the audit process.
  • Experience implementing strategic and operational plans.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and listen.
  • Proven mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.
  • Experience working with First Nations and understanding of First Nations health, social, and information management concerns.
  • Highly initiative-taking, able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong decision-making skills, objectivity, diplomacy, and fairness, and excellent problem-solving and sound judgment abilities.
  • Experience creating a safe workplace culture where equity, diversity and inclusion are embraced and practiced.
  • Solid computer software skills, including Microsoft Office, Adagio, Paydirt and Bamboo H.R., are assets.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

    • What We Offer

    Salary : $85 – $120,000.00 per annum

    Three weeks annual vacation (6% accrual)

    An additional paid time off during the festive season

    A healthy extended benefits plan, including ten sick days and five personal days per year
