Position Description

The Inventory/Returns Supervisor is responsible for guiding day to day activities of Inventory Clerks, Shipping/Receiving, Material Handlers, Cycle Counters and Returns Associates at the Milwaukee Tool Service & Returns Hub in Canada. In conjunction with other Supervisors and Managers, this position builds the culture and maintains the teams that will achieve the plant’s productivity, quality, and safety goals.

This leadership role’s primary function is to enhance daily performance through direct supervision of work methods. It also supports and coaches the inventory control teams throughout the day, demonstrating Milwaukee’s culture in all activities, interactions, and relationships.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and coordinate teams in warehouse, inventory, material handling and reverse logistics (Returns) areas to meet production goals as well as accuracy, safety, cost, inventory, and team objectives.
  • In conjunction with counterparts in the plant and at sister plants, as well as supporting organizations, create and execute inventory control methods, policies, and procedures obsessed with accuracy, timeliness, and repeatability. Spread best practices to other plants and adopt best practices from other locations.
  • Lead structured cycle counts, ensuring timely and accurate completion as well as full follow up on variance approvals and reporting.
  • Ensure all inbound and outbound products are processed accurately and on time, and placed in appropriate locations, and that systems and record keeping are accurate and timely.

  • Orientate, train & develop, motivate, counsel and assist team members in work instructions, inventory control standards, and the balanced flow of work and problem resolution.
  • Assist in hiring and onboarding – assessing talent, interviewing, onboarding, and assimilating new employees as they transition from training onto the plant floor.
  • Ensure all equipment, tools, and safety equipment are operable, used as designed, and work instructions are being followed. Urgently correct or escalate as required, including engagement with engineering, training, leadership, etc.
  • Assign work and special projects to team members to develop work experience and flexibility.
  • Monitor and audit daily inventory control reports. Resolve potential errors.
  • Monitor and review budget and forecast and factor into daily staffing and production decisions.
  • Requisition resources (supplies, tools, etc.) and expedite as required.
  • Act as backup for all team members, including Inventory Manager.

  • Contribute to team success by performing related tasks as needed to assist in overall department goals.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and visually appealing plant.
  • Maintain a safe and secure warehouse. Ensure that appropriate procedures are in place and followed.
  • Build self-sustaining safety and 6S cultures. Ensure team members are following all safety and 6S standards.
  • Lead, support, and encourage participation in safety, 6S, and culture teams, and celebrate their roles in the plant.
  • Audit near misses, rack safety, safety incidents, and related processes to determine root causes and implement necessary corrections.
  • Monitor team data feeds, reports, metrics, and KPIs to ensure daily performance as well as identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Work with production teams, engineering, and other supporting functions to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and support kaizen, root cause, value stream mapping, process audits, and other continuous improvement activities. Collaborate with other groups where those activities intersect with your teams.
  • Travel will be rare, but some initial travel could be approved to Milwaukee’s other service hubs in Greenwood Indiana, or Greenwood Mississippi.
