Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)
Existing Vacancy: Yes

Description:

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic Neurologist. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires advanced training and evidence of scholarship. The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date thereafter.

Sunnybrook is a leader in neurology with a respected international reputation, and its dementia program is of particular impact. We are seeking a collegial candidate who is committed to collaboration within this high-performing team and who aspires to further advance its clinical and academic activities. Provision of outpatient clinical care in dementia is essential to this position. Training or experience in education would support an agenda focused on training the next generation of dementia care providers in collaboration with the team. The successful candidate will have advanced training in dementia/cognitive neurology and will provide consultation to identify patients appropriate for novel therapies, as well as support patient recruitment to the team’s academic projects.

Expertise in dementia care is central to this position. The successful candidate will have experience in the outpatient assessment, diagnosis, and management of cognitive disorders and dementia, including, but not limited to, identifying patients appropriate for disease-modifying therapies.

The candidate will participate in shared general neurology call and inpatient consultation services, and will manage related outpatient clinical responsibilities. The primary location of practice will be Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Canada. Proficiency in English is required.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; be certified or eligible for certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and be licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Post-residency training must be appropriate to the proposed academic position description and rank and include fellowship training in cognitive neurology/dementia, preferably at a high-volume referral centre.

The successful candidate will maintain an outpatient clinical practice with protected time for teaching and for supporting divisional research and quality-improvement initiatives, in accordance with the applicable academic position description. Teaching and administrative responsibilities may include coordination of a cognitive neurology rotation for resident trainees. Performance will be evaluated by key stakeholders, including learners, team members, hospital administration, and education leadership.

Estimated remuneration will be between the range of $295,000 - 400,000 per year (fee for service), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.

Applications will be accepted until August 1, 2026, or until the position is filled.

Interested applicants should submit: (i) a letter of interest, including a statement describing contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic and scholarly work; (ii) a curriculum vitae; and (iii) the names and contact information of three referees, to:
