The Organization

Canadian Mental Health Association Muskoka–Parry Sound (CMHA MPS) is a trusted, community‑based non‑profit organization delivering vital mental health, addictions, and housing programs and supports across one of Ontario’s largest and most diverse geographies. CMHA MPS is deeply rooted in recovery‑oriented, person‑centred, and strength‑based practice, empowering individuals to live with dignity, autonomy, and hope.

Through a broad continuum of community‑based programs, CMHA MPS responds to urgent and complex needs, addresses social determinants of health, and strengthens resilience and well‑being across some of Ontario’s most underserved regions. The organization is recognized as a collaborative system partner and a trusted ally to Indigenous and First Nations communities throughout Muskoka and Parry Sound.

It is within this context that CMHA Muskoka–Parry Sound invites applications for the role of Executive Director, following the upcoming retirement of its long‑serving leader.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to a committed and diverse Board of Directors, 50% of whom bring lived or family experience, the Executive Director will provide strategic, inclusive, and values‑driven leadership to an organization of approximately 144 clinical and operational staff working across multiple sites (Bracebridge, Parry Sound, Huntsville, Sundridge and Gravenhurst). NOTE: This role can be based out of any of the 5 sites mentioned.

The Executive Director will steward CMHA MPS through a pivotal period shaped by increasing demand for mental health and addictions services, evolving provincial priorities, rising community complexity, and an intensified focus on quality, equity, cultural safety, and integrated systems of care. Having recently achieved high standing in the Accreditation in November 2025, the successful candidate will continue implementation of the 2022‑2026 Strategic Plan, while helping shape the organization’s next three‑year strategic direction beginning in 2027.

As the organization’s senior leader, the Executive Director will champion CMHA MPS’s Mission, Vision and Values; continue to deliver operational, clinical, and financial excellence; and strengthen a resilient workforce in what has come to be known as an exceptionally well supported, mentally safe work environment and culture.

Acting as CMHA MPS’s ambassador and advocate, the Executive Director will continue to strengthen relationships with funders, municipalities, health‑system partners and grassroots organizations across the region. They will work to deepen partnerships with Indigenous and First Nations communities. They will represent the organization with credibility and compassion, locally, regionally, and provincially working alongside an extensive network of other CMHA leaders, advancing systems collaboration and amplifying the voice of community‑based mental health and addictions services.

About the Individual

As the ideal candidate, you are a values‑driven executive with 10+ years of senior leadership experience in the non‑profit, health, mental health, addictions, or community services sector.

You bring a deep understanding of frontline service delivery within complex, rural, and resource‑constrained environments, and are motivated by the opportunity to lead an organization with strong community trust and meaningful impact.

Essential to your success, you are a highly people‑centred leader who understands that organizational sustainability is inseparable from staff well‑being, engagement, and retention, particularly in regions where recruiting and retaining experienced professionals is challenging due to workforce shortages, geographic dispersion, and the emotional intensity of the work.

You lead with empathy, emotional intelligence, and accountability, and you are intentional about fostering a positive, psychologically safe, and inclusive workplace culture where people feel supported, valued, and able to do their best work over the long term.

Comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, you bring demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a Board of Directors, alongside strong financial, governance, and human‑resources acumen. You are skilled in navigating change, balancing competing priorities, and maintaining organizational stability while responding thoughtfully to evolving system pressures, funding environments, and community needs.

You are an authentic, visible, and collaborative leader who builds trust across teams and stakeholders. You communicate clearly and transparently, lead with integrity, and are comfortable serving as the organization’s ambassador, representing CMHA Muskoka‑Parry Sound with credibility, humility, and confidence across government, Indigenous and First Nations partners, funders, municipalities, and community organizations.

A strong understanding of, and commitment to, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, cultural safety, and reconciliation is essential. You bring experience working with diverse and underserved populations, including Indigenous communities, and approach this work with respect, curiosity, and a commitment to ongoing learning.

Compensation

This role offers a salary range of $170,000–$180,000, along with an exceptional benefits package including HOOPP, reflective of the scope, complexity, and impact of the position—and designed to attract and retain an outstanding leader committed to the long‑term success of CMHA Muskoka–Parry Sound.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility & Reconciliation (EDIA‑R)

CMHA Muskoka–Parry Sound is deeply committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and reconciliation across all aspects of its work. Guided by its mission, values, and strategic priorities, the organization strives to create safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for the individuals, families, and communities it serves, as well as for its staff, volunteers, and partners.

CMHA MPS recognizes the systemic barriers faced by Indigenous Peoples, Black and racialized communities, LGBTQ2S+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other equity‑deserving groups, and is committed to meaningful action that supports truth, reconciliation, cultural safety, and anti‑oppressive practice. This includes ongoing learning, reflective leadership, and the integration of lived and living experience into decision‑making and service delivery.

In partnership with EDGEPATH Talent Solutions, CMHA Muskoka–Parry Sound strongly encourages applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of the communities it serves and who bring varied lived, professional, and cultural experiences. Accommodations are available throughout the recruitment and selection process, and we are committed to ensuring an inclusive, respectful, and accessible experience for all applicants.
