Job description

Overview

Skawahlook First Nation is a small, close-knit Nation of approximately 100 members, located between Hope and Agassiz in the Fraser River Valley. Our lands are largely open and accessible, and our highway location supports connection, opportunity, and economic development. Our economic initiatives include the Ruby Creek Art Gallery, which shares Indigenous art and stories with those travelling through our territory, as well as a large hall and banquet facility that brings people together for gatherings and community events. We are a progressive First Nation working together toward a shared vision of a healthy, proud, and prosperous community for present and future generations. With a small office team of approximately seven employees, we value collaboration, mutual support, and shared responsibility. As we advance economic development opportunities, Sq’ewá:lxw offers a dynamic and growth-oriented work environment.

Role Overview

Reporting to Chief and Council, the Managing Director serves as the senior administrative leader for Sq’ewá:lxw, carrying responsibility for the overall health, growth, and day-to-day operations of the Nation’s administration, programs, and business activities. Grounded in Sq’ewá:lxw values, this role focuses on building the capacity of both staff and community through strong relationships, clear communication, collaboration, and meaningful engagement.

The Managing Director works closely with Chief and Council to support strategic planning and translate community priorities into effective operations, while fostering a respectful, supportive workplace where people are empowered to grow, lead, and contribute to the long-term prosperity and wellbeing of Sq’ewá:lxw.

  • Provide administrative and research support to governance as required.
  • Stewardship of Community Resources
  • Provide oversight and accountability for Sq’ewá:lxw’s financial management, budgeting, and controls.

  • Oversee contracts and financial policies to support responsible and sustainable growth.
  • Community Relationships, Engagement, and Growth
  • Build and maintain respectful, responsive relationships with Sq’ewá:lxw members.
  • Support meaningful community engagement, communication, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Work with the community to develop and implement the Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP).
  • Chair and support the Housing Committee.
  • Keeping Our Organization Strong and Connected
  • Take primary responsibility for both oversight and day-to-day delivery of all administrative and office functions, working hands-on in a small team environment.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, funding proposals, and other materials, while supporting daily office operations such as phones, calendars, visitor reception, and records management.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date filing systems, office supplies, equipment, and basic IT functions, seeking external support when required.
  • Ensure the office remains organized, responsive, and welcoming to members and visitors.
  • Building Partnerships and Advancing Key Initiatives
  • Represent Sq’ewá:lxw in external meetings, partnerships, and project discussions.
