Job Summary
Reporting directly to Manager-Quality, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for assisting with quality system development and supporting product quality improvements. They will develop, maintain and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities. This role is an in‑office position reporting on‑site at our Bedford, NS facility.
Responsibilities
- Assist with quality system development and support product quality improvements
- Develop, maintain and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities
- Work independently under supervision of others
- Review and approve engineering/test and contractor documentation and provide input to assure that appropriate quality requirements are addressed
- Gather, organize, monitor, analyze and report on information on products and processes
- Provide ongoing quality system support to include performing internal audits and ensuring implementation of root‑cause corrective actions
- Participate on product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards
- Evaluate and disposition non‑conforming material
- Provide technical support for Assembly/Test/Inspection personnel to include executing workmanship improvement plans, developing inspection methods and criteria, specifying appropriate sampling plans, interpreting and revising specifications, and processing non‑conforming materials
- Assist in resolving customer quality issues
- Initiate and drive root cause and corrective action on process and product quality issues
- Participate in supplier selection and improvement processes
- Assist with on‑site audits, evaluate prototypes, and review and approve supplier corrective actions
- Perform inspection activities to assess conformance of products to the design as defined by the engineering drawings and/or models
- Inspect products, components, subassemblies, and/or systems to ensure conformance to requirements
- Identify nonconforming conditions of products that present existing or impending defective conditions at the system or subsystem level of assembly
- Prepare inspection plans and checklists for inspection
- Generate discrepancy notices and initiate Material Review Board actions
- Perform material movement transactions after completing inspection process
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Perform receiving inspection, in‑process inspection, process verification/auditing, final inspection, etc.
- Attend appropriate customer, business or program meetings
- Prepare quality engineering reports and recommendations
- Provide regular reporting of progress and status
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience – considered an asset
- 3 – 5 years of related work experience within a fast‑paced electronics manufacturing environment
- General knowledge of relevant manufacturing standards (such as J-Std-001/IPC-A-610/IPC/WHMA-A-620) or common mechanical techniques (such as geometric dimensioning and tolerance practices)
- Ability to use various measurement devices (calipers, pin gauges, go/no‑go gauges, etc.) to verify mechanical part compliance
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and verify parts dimensions against drawing requirements
- Effective interpretation of data and presentation to engineers and other technical staff
- Novice technical expertise and application domain knowledge
- Basic knowledge of ISO Standards
- Familiarity with ISO Standards as well as AS standards
- Demonstrates initiative and applies it on‑the‑job
- Ability to manage multiple technical assignments
- Maintain positive working relationships with other team members
- Ability to understand military specifications and to read blueprints
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
- Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and encourage a positive work environment
