Position Title

Specialist, Inclusion Support

Reports To

Director, National Camp Programs

Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

The Specialist, Inclusion Support will hold guest experience as the highest priority while providing safe, accessible recreational opportunities for guests (seniors, adults, families, children, and youth). This position will be the main point of contact for providing support for guests requiring additional assistance. They will also oversee the programming and use of the sensory room and take a leadership role in assisting with behavior support, adaptive equipment and planning modified programs/activities. They will support other program areas (waterfront, boat, land programs) as needed.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Energetically and inclusively support recreation programs (e.g., crafts, games, campfires, etc.) for seniors, adults, youth and family guests, incl. waterfront activities and off‑site excursions.
  • Facilitate sensory‑room sessions for guests, as scheduled.
  • Complete appropriate documentation regarding guest experience in the sensory room and any additional support that guests require during their week at camp.
  • Set up the assigned program area, ensure all required equipment and materials are available, and clean up the program after completion; report any low materials or equipment issues to the appropriate program head.
  • Assist guests with daily life skills as needed (e.g., reminders about routines and hygiene, orientation and mobility support on site).
  • Create tools and resources that can be used to support a guest’s success in Lake Joe’s overnight programs.
  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving meals, meal set‑up and clean‑up.
  • Provide support, guidance and leadership to volunteers, guests, and visitors.
  • On a rotational basis, be part of the emergency response team (on‑call, present on site and available to respond to emergencies).
  • During the spring season: Set up program areas, ensure required resources are available and help with small maintenance tasks.
  • Work as a team member, taking on other areas of responsibility as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications

  • Education in the field of Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Development Services Worker, or similar field is an asset.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy and communication.
  • Experience working with people with sight loss is an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours in a changing and busy environment.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time.
  • This position may have to deal with challenging situations and/or people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions.
  • Possibility to reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members.
