Summary
The Mental Health and Wellness Manager leads the CSU’s new mental health service, overseeing its development, daily operations, and long-term direction. This role coordinates mental‑health support systems, manages student referrals, supervises staff, builds partnerships with campus and community mental‑health providers, and ensures the service runs safely, confidentially, and in alignment with best practices.
The manager also designs wellness education initiatives and programs that address student stress, burnout, academic pressures, and overall mental well‑being. The position combines program development, service coordination, student support, and strategic planning.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and propose programs that address key student needs including stress management, nutrition, physical activity, sleep habits, mindfulness.
- Set‑up and organize the physical office and meeting space for the service.
- Prepare the wellness budget for approval, manage expenses and ensure responsible spending, in collaboration with the Finance Coordinator and the General Manager.
- Supervise staff members assigned to the service, providing guidance, training and oversight.
- Coordinate wellness campaigns and major events such as Mental Health Awareness Week and Wellness Fairs.
- Integrate wellness education into student orientation and residence life programming.
- Collaborate with counseling services to advance mental health literacy and reduce stigma.
- Build training modules for peer supporters and staff on boundaries, crisis escalation, safe communication, and inclusive student support.
- Provide confidential referrals and guidance for students seeking wellness or mental health support.
- Create educational materials including digital content, presentations, and workshops.
- Partner with student groups and campus stakeholders to embed wellness into academic and extracurricular life.
- Develop wellness and mental health resources that are inclusive and culturally responsive.
- Liaise with community partners, coordinate department collaboration, analyze program data, and prepare reports.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all CSU matters and student‑related interactions, including communications, documentation, and data. Ensure appropriate safeguards are in place and uphold integrity, professionalism, and organizational values in all circumstances.
- Assist with other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Psychology, Kinesiology, or related field (Master’s preferred). Equivalent experience acceptable.
- Training: No training is required.
- Licenses/Certificates: No licenses or certifications required. Preferred to have Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Mental Health First Aid, or Wellness Coaching certification.
- Relevant Work Experience: Minimum 1‑3 years of experience in health promotion, wellness coordination, or student services. Experience in university settings, non‑profits, or community mental‑health organizations is an asset.
- Technical Experience: No technical experience required.
- Initiative: Strong writing, organizational, and critical thinking skills.

- Within the Organization:
- Executives and GM: Daily collaboration to align wellness priorities with organizational goals and coordinate major campaigns and initiatives.
- Advocacy Center: Weekly work to address student concerns, streamline referral pathways, and ensure that wellness initiatives complement peer support and advocacy efforts.
- Communications Department: Weekly coordination of messaging, promotional materials, and outreach strategies to increase visibility and engagement.
- Finance and Administrative Staff: Monthly or as needed work on budget planning, purchasing, and resource allocation for wellness programs.
- Outside the Organization:
- Concordia University Administration and Facilities: Occasionally liaison for event approvals, room bookings, and policy alignment.
- Community Health Organizations: Monthly or as needed collaboration on programming, sharing best practices, and bringing external expertise to student wellness education.
- Wellness and Mental Health Providers: Monthly or as needed engagement for workshops, special sessions, or collaborative initiatives that support student well‑being.
Working Conditions
- Physical demands: Primarily sedentary work with consistent computer use. Occasional movement of materials for wellness fairs, workshops, or outreach activities. May involve carrying items up to twenty pounds.

Compensation
This position is unionized and will be positioned as Class 8. All other benefits and conditions are consistent with the Bargaining Unit and include vacation, personal days, sick days, Health Dental, and Pension fund.
