At Kyndryl, we run and reimagine the mission-critical technology systems that drive advantage for the world’s leading businesses. We are at the heart of progress; with proven expertise and a continuous flow of AI-powered insight, enabling smarter decisions, faster innovation, and a lasting competitive edge. For our people—Kyndryls—that means doing purposeful work that powers human progress. Join us and experience a flexible, supportive environment where your well-being is prioritized and your potential can thrive.

The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl supporting the Government of Canada, you will play a critical role in maintaining secure, resilient, and high‑performing mainframe storage environments across federal departments. You’ll work within highly regulated, security‑focused infrastructures—supporting modernization initiatives, adhering to GC compliance frameworks, and ensuring uninterrupted operations for mission‑critical public services.

Operational Support & Administration

  • Manage day‑to‑day mainframe storage operations across GC‑hosted z/OS environments aligned with SSC and departmental requirements.
  • Install, configure, and maintain z/OS storage software products (DFSMS, FDR, DFDSS, etc.) in accordance with Government of Canada security and change‑control protocols.
  • Administer catalog structures, SMS constructs, storage groups, and HCD definitions while ensuring compliance with GC configuration baselines.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation to support 24/7 government operations, responding to incidents, RFCs, and service tickets with urgency and accuracy.
  • Work within ITIL‑based service delivery models commonly adopted in GC environments.

Engineering & Technical Delivery

  • Implement and support enterprise disaster recovery and business continuity solutions used across federal systems, including GDPS, XRC, PPRC, and controller‑based replication.
  • Troubleshoot complex performance issues using advanced z/OS diagnostics and monitoring tools (SMF, RMF, GTF), ensuring continuous availability of GC applications and services.
  • Administer IBM and HDS enterprise storage systems and virtual tape platforms (IBM TS7700, Oracle VSM7) within protected government networks.
  • Execute secure and compliant data migrations using TDMF and other enterprise‑grade tooling while maintaining GC data integrity requirements.
  • Support modernization initiatives aligned with Government of Canada digital transformation mandates.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, maintain, and update operational procedures, platform standards, and installation guides to satisfy GC audit, compliance, and documentation expectations.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to strengthen system stability, performance, resiliency, and security, ensuring adherence to GC directives (e.g., ITSG‑33, Treasury Board policies).
  • Provide internal knowledge sharing, cross‑training, and mentoring to team members, government stakeholders, and cross‑functional partners.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement while upholding the security, privacy, and governance standards required for federal environments.

Candidate must posses a government of Canada security Clearance

  • Hands-on administration of IBM and HDS enterprise storage platforms.

  • Familiarity with ITIL Change Management practices.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical teams.

  • Proven success collaborating on large projects and meeting deadlines in complex environments.

  • Candidate must possess L2 Government of Canada Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience installing and maintaining third‑party ISV software (CA, BMC, Compuware, etc.).

  • Experience providing user support, requirements validation, and conflict resolution.

  • Strong history of delivering knowledge transfer and team training.
