Registered Nurse, Emergency - Specialty Qualified - Langley Memorial Hospital

Salary: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 per hour.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in an emergency department, assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating nursing care in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives standards and Fraser Health’s Mission and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Determines a nursing diagnosis and appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborates with patients and families to develop care plans, encourages participation, and upholds patient rights to privacy, dignity, and autonomy.
  • Participates in admission and discharge planning, ensuring care plans are effective and updated, and coordinates with the interprofessional team.
  • Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, delegates tasks, and refers patients to the interprofessional team as needed.
  • Teaches patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance, assessing learning needs and providing instruction.
  • Documents assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards.
  • Participates in nursing committees, care conferences, quality improvement activities, and educational programs.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to new staff and students, sharing knowledge and participating in orientation.
  • Provides feedback to management regarding patient care programs, policies, and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Completion of applicable postgraduate coursework in emergency or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and interprofessional team.
  • Promote person-centered care with empathy, sensitivity to diverse cultures, and patient advocacy.
  • Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to solve problems.
  • Teach patients and families about essential health topics.
  • Organize and prioritize work.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional team members.
  • Use evidence-informed practice to support nursing decisions and actions.
  • Operate relevant equipment and computer applications.
  • Possess physical ability to perform job duties.
