The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates with Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Support to develop, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes for both existing and new product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new product designs for manufacturability and provide recommendations for production feasibility.
  • Support production teams in reducing lead times and minimizing scrap using Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Design and implement new manufacturing processes, procedures, and systems, including training for shop floor employees and support staff.
  • Perform work cell and production line balancing, layout design, and time and motion studies.
  • Apply expertise in product design and assembly to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and implement production jigs and fixtures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Estimate costs, production times, and staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Standardize design criteria across product lines and participate in design reviews to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles are applied.
  • Lead the transition from engineering design to manufacturing, including the development of routings and structures for procurement and production while maintaining quality and configuration traceability.
  • Design and implement new production line and facility layouts.
  • Investigate and resolve process failures through root cause analysis.
  • Develop, modify, and update work instructions to ensure product consistency and quality.
  • Improve product quality and margin by reducing scrap and rework, eliminating non-value-added activities.
  • Support non-conformance investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct periodic process reviews to identify deficiencies and implement corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with procurement and production support to enhance material flow and reduce inventory.
  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvements by liaising with manufacturing, engineering, and other departments.
  • Research and implement new techniques and equipment to align manufacturing practices with industry best standards.
  • Act as a change agent within production, educating and influencing teams on process improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field with significant manufacturing experience).
  • Experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or similar role in an industrial environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain Canadian government security clearance and meet Controlled Goods Program requirements.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and TQM.
  • Experience in work measurement and standardization.
  • Background in aerospace or defense manufacturing is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Visio.
  • Experience with ERP systems, including the development of routings and Bill of Materials structures.
  • Strong technical writing skills, particularly in developing work instructions.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred).
  • Strong data analysis abilities, including experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Understanding of Engineering Change Control processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and develop innovative solutions for complex challenges.
