Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Profile & Client Development, the Manager, Profile & Client Development is a key member of the team, responsible for executing the growth, visibility and client engagement strategies at a national level of assigned practice and sector groups. This role combines strategic thinking with hands‑on initiative execution, with the support of one direct report and a cross‑functional team. Working closely with the Senior Manager, national practice leaders and cross‑functional teams, the Manager contributes to go‑to‑market strategies, client relationship expansion, and high‑impact campaigns that drive revenue. In addition to national responsibilities, the Manager will also support profile‑raising and client development efforts in the Montreal market, working closely with regional stakeholders to advance visibility and business priorities.

With a passion for growth and client development, the Manager will bring a successful track record in implementing and executing strategies to win new business in a professional services or similar industry, and understands the complexities of a matrixed environment and the relationship‑based nature of our business.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Market Positioning

  • Oversee and facilitate the delivery of business planning for the Montreal office and assigned groups; execute action items for key initiatives, including research ideas and draft materials; track, follow up and present on group and lawyer initiatives to keep priorities moving forward.
  • Support the development and lead the execution of national business development plans for assigned groups, aligning efforts with firmwide strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of practice and sector project plans and deliver on owned accountabilities for assigned practice and sector groups.
  • Utilize internal firm data, external market intelligence, and industry trends to identify client and market growth opportunities and inform recommendations.
  • Drive business development and profile‑raising efforts through research and analysis.
  • Support go‑to‑market planning, brand positioning, and messaging for new offerings, markets, or initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives to improve ROI and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Clearly communicate BD strategies and recommendations, adapting tone and level of detail based on audience.

Client Development & Cross‑Selling

  • Build and execute profile-raising strategies, client-focused initiatives, and thought leadership programs tailored to key audiences.
  • Understand and leverage firm experience and key client relationships to identify cross‑selling opportunities and expand client engagements.
  • Partner with Client Team Leads on key account programs, facilitating collaboration, strategy execution, and lawyer engagement.
  • Support the enhancement of client lists for assigned practice and sector groups, working collaboratively with the CRM team.
  • Prepare and support the development of RFPs and proposals by working with partners on messaging and working with the proposal team on contributing client‑specific insights, experience lists, and value‑add recommendations.

Initiative & Campaign Execution

  • Manage the execution of strategic initiatives and projects including tracking timelines, deliverables, responsibilities across stakeholders, and ROI.
  • Coordinate and deliver sector‑ and practice‑specific webinars, podcasts, events, sponsorships, and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities that are compelling and audience‑appropriate.
  • Prepare and manage legal directory submissions for review and approval by accountable partners, ensuring alignment with positioning strategy and timely delivery.

Practice Management & Support

  • Facilitate regular meetings for assigned practice and industry groups, including development of agendas and slides, and providing insights, updates, and strategic direction.
  • Manage and track approved budget for assigned practice groups.
  • Support onboarding of new partners and associates.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Act as a trusted advisor to lawyers, navigating diverse personalities and working styles to drive progress on BD goals.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Business Intelligence, Communications, Creative, CRM, Digital, Events, Proposals and other Business Services to ensure integrated support and alignment with business priorities.
  • Provide direction and context when liaising with internal teams and offer coaching or mentorship to junior colleagues when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other practice groups and BD colleagues to identify cross‑selling opportunities and support firm‑wide initiatives.

Role of the Manager

  • Championing collaboration and best practice sharing: Proactively share successful approaches, templates, and learnings with peers and junior team members to support consistency and continuous improvement across the national team.
  • Driving strategic thinking: Go beyond execution by evaluating how and why things are done and identifying opportunities to enhance processes, increase impact, and recommend improvements that contribute to overall team effectiveness.
  • Mentoring and developing team: Support the growth of more junior team members by offering guidance, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a positive, high‑performing team culture.
  • Demonstrating ownership and initiative: Operate with a high degree of autonomy, anticipating needs, surfacing risks or roadblocks early, and taking accountability for driving initiatives forward.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Marketing or Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of marketing or business development experience, ideally in professional services.
  • Proven ability to lead BD strategies and campaigns, translating strategy into actionable plans aligned with business goals.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills; able to manage complex initiatives and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholder groups, adapting communication style as needed.
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills; comfortable engaging with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Strong business acumen; familiarity with corporate transactional and litigation terminology is an asset.
  • Innovative and data‑driven mindset; able to identify opportunities, embrace learning, and apply digital tools and solutions.
  • Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and detail‑focused, with the ability to absorb and convey new concepts quickly.
  • Diplomatic and professional, with strong negotiation, persuasion, and relationship management abilities.
  • Client‑focused, flexible, and resilient in responding to changing priorities.
  • Committed to privacy, ethics, and professional integrity.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours during peak periods.
