Unit Summary
Operating during regular business hours, the Surgical Ambulatory Care Clinic at the Juravinski Hospital site provides resources and facilities for consultation, day surgical procedures, urodynamic assessment, and skin ostomy care.
Position Summary
As a member of the Health Care Team, the Health Care Aide provides support for patient care procedures; handles equipment and supply management, instrument decontamination and reprocessing and maintains a clean and safe environment in Surgical Ambulatory Care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
1. Grade 12 education and must be able to read and write English proficiently
2. Successful completion of the CSAO techniques course
3. Minimum 2 years technical experience in a similar role within a healthcare environment including demonstrated proficiency in handling and reprocessing delicate expensive surgical instruments
4. Minimum 2 years experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies
5. Demonstrated competency in applying the principles of Universal Precautions and WHMIS to the work setting
6. Demonstrated computer skills in: MS Exchange/Outlook, Windows 98, Meditech Materials Management
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients and families, both verbal and written, including e-mail
8. Ability to demonstrate attributes that contribute to a respectful caring environment
9. Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and to accept assigned or delegated functions while working independently and unsupervised when appropriate and necessary
10. Demonstrated acceptance of responsibility for tasks and demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the position
11. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly in response to the clinic's needs
12. Demonstrated ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
13. Demonstrated ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
14. PSW certificate preferred.
