How You Will Contribute:
Ciena’s Product Security organization is building a world-classDetection Engineeringcapability;a strategic initiative that makes our productsmoreobservable, defensible, and easier tooperate.We’relooking for a hands-on technical leader to design, build, and operationalize this capability across our product lines.
This role is ideal for someone with strong experience insecurity engineering, telemetry, SIEM integrations,detectioncontent development, and an ability to bridgeproduct development, PSIRT, and offensive security insightsinto actionable detections.
Lead the design and implementationof Ciena’s Detection Engineering framework, covering logging, auditing, alerting, TTP-based detections, vulnerability exposure checks, and hardening compliance automation.
Definelogging and telemetry standardsfor product teams, ensuring events are structured, consistent, and SIEM-ready.
Translate findings fromPen Testing, PSIRT, and Threat Intelligenceinto reusable, product-specificdetectionsand alert packs.
Architect andmaintaincustom detection scripts and automation
Developmetrics and dashboardsto measure Mean Time to Detect (MTTD),detectionprecision, coverage, and compliance posture.
Partner withR&D, PLM, and Compliance teamsto embed detection checkpoints into the product lifecycle and ensure regulatory alignment (NIST, ISO, EU CRA, NIS2, etc.).
Mentor engineers ondetectionrule creation, data quality, and event design.
Present program progress and outcomes to senior leadership, security councils, and customer security reviews.
Thenice to haves:
8+ years in security engineering, detection engineering, or product security.
Strong understanding of logging architectures, telemetry design, and SIEM technologies (Splunk,QRadar, Elastic, Sentinel, etc.).
Hands-on experience with threat detection logic, MITRE ATT&CK mapping, and detection-as-code principles.
Proficiencyin Python, JSON, and scripting for automation and data normalization.
Familiarity with NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, and industry regulatory requirements for logging and monitoring.
Experience working with vulnerability management, PSIRT processes, or red/blue team findings.
Excellent communication skills to interface with product managers, engineers, and executive stakeholders.
Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
Assets:
Prior experience building or maturing a detection engineering or telemetry program in anetworking or telecom product environment.
Familiarity withsecure configuration baselines, compliance automation, andSBOM/VEX workflows.
Contributions toopen-source detection or security toolinga plus.

Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position is C$76,600 - C$122,400.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
