About Ecora

Ecora Consultants Ltd. is one of Canada's fastest-growing full-service consulting firms, driven by our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community. With a multidisciplinary team and offices across British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario, we deliver integrated solutions in engineering, environmental sciences, planning, and natural resource management.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our growing Structural Engineering team in Surrey, BC. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your technical expertise in the design, analysis, and construction of a wide variety of structures.

Under the mentorship of experienced Professional Engineers, you will work on building projects using wood, concrete, steel, and masonry, preparing design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications, and participating in site visits and field reviews. This role provides an excellent foundation for professional growth toward P.Eng. licensure and offers exposure to multidisciplinary project collaboration across architectural, engineering, and client teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the structural design of buildings and components using a variety of materials including wood, concrete, steel, and masonry.

  • Perform structural analysis for new construction, renovations, and retrofit projects under various loading conditions (gravity, wind, seismic).

  • Support the preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and comprehensive design reports.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, technologists, and clients to ensure coordinated project delivery.

  • Participate in site visits, construction reviews, and inspections, documenting field observations and preparing detailed reports.

  • Utilize structural design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and specialized analysis tools (SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System).

  • Conduct code reviews and ensure designs comply with applicable Canadian building codes and standards (NBCC, CSA).

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, proposals, and tender documents.

  • Contribute to a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within projects.

  • Perform engineering calculations for structural elements (beams, columns, foundations, connections) under guidance.

  • Develop engineering models and simulations to analyze structural behavior.

  • Prepare technical memos and correspondence related to project issues or design clarifications.

  • Review and verify shop drawings and submittals from contractors for compliance with design intent.

  • Conduct research on materials, construction methods, and structural systems to support project development.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, calculations, and design records.

  • Represent Ecora professionally, upholding our core values of integrity, collaboration, quality, and environmental responsibility.

  • Participate actively in internal technical discussions and design reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.

  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

  • 1–3 years of relevant structural engineering experience in Canada; co-op or internship experience is considered a significant asset.

  • Familiarity with Canadian structural design codes and standards.

  • Proficiency in structural modeling, drafting, and detailing software; experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit highly preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and time management skills.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites within British Columbia.

  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to learn in a dynamic, multidisciplinary consulting environment.

  • Committed to pursuing professional licensure (P.Eng.) and continuous career development.

Why Join Ecora

  • Be part of a fast-growing, employee-owned firm recognized for technical excellence and community commitment.

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package, including:

    • Health, vision, and dental coverage

    • Group RRSP matching program

    • Paid vacation and sick leave

    • Performance bonus

    • Personal days

    • Professional membership reimbursements
