  • Own the creation of solution options and guide the team toward a comprehensive end-to-end design, coordinating stakeholders across product, architecture, and platform functions.
  • Promote a strong engineering mindset grounded in iterative learning (e.g., “build it, break it, fix it”), ensuring quality is designed-in and validated early.
  • Ensure delivered solutions meet defined requirements for performance, availability, resiliency, security, and enterprise architecture alignment.
  • Establish and evolve engineering best practices for API lifecycle management, event-driven integration, and test automation.

Engineering Excellence / Shareholder

  • Execute on engineering strategy related to tooling adoption and automation for build/test/release/configuration pipelines.
  • Drive governance and technical review rigor including solution design reviews, code reviews, operational readiness reviews, and deployment gating.
  • Define engineering metrics and performance goals (e.g., quality, throughput, stability, reliability) and use them to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise frameworks, policies, risk practices, and regulatory expectations in a large, regulated environment.

Operations (Large-Scale Production & Support)

  • Ensure team accountability for operational readiness and production stability, including incident management practices, root-cause analysis, and preventative remediation.
  • Partner with operations and platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil through automation and improved observability.
  • Establish clear ownership for service health, including production issue triage and escalation paths.

People Leadership (Manager of ~25)

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of ~25 engineers, creating a culture of accountability, learning, inclusion, and high performance.
  • Provide career development, mentorship, and performance coaching; build succession and capability plans across the team.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and act as a trusted partner to stakeholders across business and technology.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • People management experience leading software engineering teams at scale (team leadership, coaching, performance management, and delivery accountability), ideally in a distributed or matrixed environment.
  • Strong prior engineering background delivering distributed applications and service-based architectures, including:Java, NodeJS (or comparable modern backend runtime)Event streaming / messaging such as Kafka (or equivalent)API development patterns (RESTful APIs, service contracts, integration patterns)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through the full lifecycle: design → code → test → deploy → operate, including delivery governance and quality practices.
  • Experience driving automation across CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows (build/test/release/configuration).
  • Strong collaboration skills across Architecture, Platform, Security, and Operations teams, with the ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs clearly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or using Kafka-related tooling for test automation, serialization, or integration validation (e.g., virtualized test clients / automated coverage improvements).
  • Experience in regulated enterprise environments with strong risk & control practices, operational readiness standards, and governance expectations.
  • Exposure to core banking platforms or large financial services ecosystems.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled tooling and methodologies to accelerate delivery of distributed applications—e.g., API development, event-stream processing (Kafka), contract/schema evolution, test automation, CI/CD optimization, and developer productivity (code assistance, automated reviews, documentation generation).
  • Familiarity with AI-driven engineering and reliability patterns in distributed systems, including intelligent automation (pipeline + release gating), testing acceleration (service virtualization, synthetic test data, regression selection), code/security quality analysis (static + dependency risk insights), and service reliability optimization (anomaly detection, incident triage assist, root-cause hypothesis generation across microservices and streams)

Experience / Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive engineering experience in distributed systems and backend development, with proven people leadership experience.
