Job description
Hours: 15 hours per weekend, with 3 weekends worked per calendar month. Rotating shifts of days (7:00am-3:00pm and 8:00am-4:00pm), afternoons (3:00pm-11:00pm and 4:00pm-12:00am) and nights (11:00pm-7:00am and 12:00am-8:00am). Opportunity to pick up additional hours across Family Centre programs as they become available. To learn more about Good Shepherd, visit our website at opportunity is with our Good Shepherd – Family CentreHow You Will Make an ImpactProvide support to service users including but not limited to assessment, intake, housing-based case management, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, accompaniment to viewings and appointments, facilitating long term housing success, and linkages with other community servicesResidential tasks such as house laundry, cleaning common spaces, unit turnovers, unit inventory, unit inspections, and other tasks required for the safe and efficient operation of the program Maintain the safety and security of the shelter by completing hourly facility checks, answering phones and doors, and weekly unit inspections Recognize and appropriately respond to the unique barriers faced by service usersRespect and protect the confidentiality of service user information and other information that is sensitive in nature to the operation of the programObserve all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good ShepherdWhat You'll Bring to Our TeamPost-secondary education in Social Services or a related field is required Experience working in a residential setting is preferredMinimum 1-year related experience in community outreach or emergency shelter, and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related fieldHave knowledge of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance useCommitment to and experience working within a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first frameworkExcellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workloadAbility to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary teamExperience with HIFIS & EMHware is an assetCPR certification or willingness to be certified is requiredA valid G license is preferred Fluency in a 2nd language is an assetCommitted to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good ShepherdWhat We OfferBe a part of a caring TEAM THAT SUPPORTS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITYSupport for continuing EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTStaff recognition programs along with access to self-care supports and EMPLOYEE/FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)POSITIVE and ENCOURAGING atmosphereMake a difference and provide HOPEJoin our team and be part of a group that values hard work, dedication, and the importance of maintaining a positive environment for everyone.Good Shepherd, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, is an equal opportunity employer operating within an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework.
