You will get the opportunity to develop into a technical leader by taking on the following 3 roles: 1) understanding the customer's technology and process and becoming the subject matter expert in the equipment/system, 2) providing project technical clarity by defining system requirements and validating system capability, and 3) being the technical leader on the system from cradle to launch, guiding the design team in ensuring project technical requirements are met. You will support technical execution of the project, contribute to risk mitigation, and drive improvements in quality, cost, and delivery.

Specific Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Learn the customer process and become the local expert in it, to support the design, integration, and verification of the machines/tools/systems.
  • Prepare component and system level analysis, calculations, or studies including but not limited to:
  • Structural integrity
  • Functional capability, drive sizing - speeds, strokes, loads, etc.
  • Accuracy, Gauge R&R
  • Pressure/flow/heat transfer
  • Compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepare (or assist in preparation of) technical project documents such as Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Safety Risk Assessments, ALARA reports, installation/commissioning plans, operating sequence/flowcharts, execution storyboards, operating and maintenance manuals, etc.

Requirements Deifinition and Verification

  • Assist in compiling and documenting design requirements, technical/functional specifications, etc.
  • Learn, understand and flow down customer and industry requirements, including applicable codes and standards, to ensure overall machine compliance.
  • Prepare vendor technical specifications and interface with vendors of process critical third party equipment, including acceptance testing and buy-off of equipment at vendor site.
  • Using tools such as a Verification Matrix, plan for verification of all design/system requirements.
  • Lead (or support) requirements verification by evaluating engineering drawings and specifications for conformance to design inputs/requirements, performing analysis (calculations, simulations, etc.) and testing (POP testing, design validation testing, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing).
  • Lead (or support) planning of Acceptance Testing, including preparation of test plans, ensuring availability of mock-ups, fixtures, test support equipment, etc., and performing test execution with the customer.

Project Technical Leadership

  • Be (or support) the project technical lead in Design Plan preparation, understand responsibilities for implementation, and perform design related activities in accordance with the Design Plan.
  • Perform (or assist in) problem solving and coordination of project engineering work.
  • Provide project support during system startup, integration and buy-off.
  • Lead (or participate in) design reviews with customers, vendors, and internal design groups
  • Lead (or participate in) project technical risk mitigation activities during design stage, preparing CTRAs (concept technical risk assessments), and performing POP (proof of principle) testing.
  • Manage (or support the technical lead in managing) project technical risk throughout the project: highlight high risk areas and create mitigation plans to reduce risk.
  • Work with ‘process critical’ third party equipment vendors to ensure compliance with requirements and adherence to budget and schedule.

Qualifications
