Job description
Job Title: Safety AdvisorJob Description

The Safety Advisor will provide field-based health and safety leadership on a major mining project in Jansen, Saskatchewan. This role focuses on being highly visible in the field, overseeing safe work practices, conducting observations and inspections, coaching workers and supervisors, documenting safety activities in SiteDocs, and supporting incident investigations. The position is ideal for an experienced mining safety professional who communicates clearly, builds strong relationships with operations teams, and thrives in a hands-on, industrial construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent safety oversight in the field, maintaining a strong and visible presence at work sites.
  • Conduct regular safety observations to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform detailed site inspections of mining and industrial construction areas to verify compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Lead and participate in toolbox talks to communicate daily safety expectations and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Facilitate and contribute to safety meetings, sharing updates, trends, and lessons learned with workers and supervisors.
  • Support and participate in incident investigations, using structured methodologies to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Document safety activities, observations, inspections, and investigations accurately in SiteDocs and other reporting tools.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to prepare reports, presentations, and safety documentation.
  • Coach and mentor workers, supervisors, and craft personnel on safe work practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams to build credibility and foster a strong safety culture on site.
  • Influence safe work behaviors and decisions in a constructive manner, addressing concerns without creating conflict.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific procedures for mining and industrial construction.
  • Act as a proactive safety resource in the field, identifying potential risks early and recommending practical controls.
  • Work independently within the safety team structure, managing daily priorities and following through on assigned tasks.
  • Support large-scale mining construction activities by monitoring safety performance and assisting in the implementation of safety programs.
Essential Skills
  • 4–5+ years of mining experience, meeting project-specific requirements for safety approval.
  • Certification as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO).
  • Completion of CSTS and WHMIS safety training certifications.
  • Proven experience working as a Safety Advisor, Safety Coordinator, or Safety Professional on industrial or mining projects.
  • Strong field-based safety experience, with a hands-on, “boots on the ground” approach.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting safety observations, site inspections, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for reporting and documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey safety expectations clearly.
  • Effective coaching abilities, providing guidance and feedback to workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to work a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation with 11-hour day shifts.
  • Reliable and dependable work habits, with a consistent commitment to safety.
  • Ability to influence safe work practices in a professional and non-confrontational manner.
  • Capacity to work independently as a self-starter while collaborating effectively with the broader project team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • CRSP designation or Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) education or certification.
  • Experience using SiteDocs for safety documentation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with structured investigation methodologies such as 5 Whys, SCAT, ICAM, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience on large-scale mining construction projects.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors and craft workers.
  • Confident coaching and mentoring style, supporting the development of safe work habits.
  • Proactive field presence, demonstrating initiative in identifying and addressing safety concerns.
  • Ability to build credibility with operations teams through consistent, fair, and knowledgeable safety support.
Work Environment

This role is based at a major mining project site in Jansen, Saskatchewan. The Safety Advisor works primarily in the field within an active mining and industrial construction environment, spending most of the time on site rather than in an office. The position follows a day-shift schedule on a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation, with 11-hour shifts. The environment involves exposure to typical mining and construction conditions, including outdoor work, heavy equipment, and ongoing construction activities. The role requires appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to all site safety protocols. The Safety Advisor collaborates closely with the project safety team and operations personnel while working independently to manage daily field responsibilities.
