Job description

About the Role

As a Business Systems Engineer on our Global e‑Commerce and ERP team, you’ll sit at the intersection of business and technology. You will translate business requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications and help design robust, automated solutions within our large-scale, homegrown ERP and e‑commerce platforms.

You’ll partner closely with Technical Product Managers (TPMs), developers, operations teams, vendors, and resellers to enable smooth API-based integrations, resolve production issues, and continuously improve the systems that power our global business. This role is ideal for someone early in their career (1–3 years’ experience) who enjoys problem solving, data analysis, and working with modern tools and technologies such as Java, SQL, Python, RESTful APIs, and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor).

What You’ll Do

Translate business requirements into technical specifications

  • Work with TPMs to understand business needs and background context.
  • Convert business requirements into clear, detailed technical specifications and backlog items for the development team.

Design and support integration solutions

  • Design technical solution approaches, including conceptual, logical, and physical designs.

  • Support API-based integrations with external vendors and resellers as well as internal platform services.

  • Work with RESTful APIs across multiple vendors, managing different standards, data mappings, and authentication methods.

Support our e‑commerce and ERP platforms

  • Help maintain and support our e‑commerce platform and related systems as part of a global, homegrown ERP environment.

  • Investigate and troubleshoot production issues, often using SQL to analyze data and understand root causes.

  • Partner with our site operations team to resolve system issues raised by resellers and customers, and provide technical insight to the development team.

Collaborate across business and technology teams

  • Engage with business and IT partners to clarify requirements and ensure alignment between technical solutions and business goals.

  • Work with developers to ensure they fully understand the technical specifications and desired outcomes.

Leverage DevOps and monitoring tools

  • Use monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and debugging tools to support stable and reliable production environments.

  • Assist with tasks such as data analysis prototypes and data migration activities under guidance from senior team members.

*As part of the recruitment process, you may be asked to complete a technical assessment (e.g., Java/Python and SQL) to demonstrate your problem-solving and coding skills.

What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • 1–3 years of relevant work experience in systems engineering, business systems analysis, software engineering, or a related technical role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Experience working with APIs (ideally RESTful) and integrating with third-party or internal services.

  • Practical experience with at least one of: Java or Python, and strong skills in SQL and relational databases.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical designs and documentation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to dive into data to understand issues.

  • Clear, professional communication skills in English (written and verbal).

Working Conditions & Flexibility

  • Work model: Remote / work-from-home in Canada or the U.S., with a preference for candidates based in Ontario (Canada) or North America time zones.

  • Schedule: Occasional non-standard hours or overtime may be required based on business needs; some on-call availability may also be necessary for critical production support.

  • Travel: May include local (in-country) and global travel for key meetings or team events.

We welcome candidates who may not meet every single requirement but are eager to learn, grow, and contribute.

The hiring range: $70,000 – $75,000 , depending on experience and location within the province.
