About CRWS

Canadian Railway Services (CRWS) is a fast-growing engineering firm focused on rolling stock design, system integration, refurbishment, testing, and lifecycle support across passenger and freight platforms. We deliver technically rigorous, compliant solutions in an industry where safety, quality, and execution timelines are critical.

We operate in a fast-paced, high-urgency rail environment where timelines are non-negotiable and where strong designers thrive by taking ownership, collaborating closely with engineers, and delivering accurate, production-ready documentation.

What You’ll Do

As a Mechanical Designer, you will support engineering and production teams by developing accurate 3D models, layouts, and technical drawings for rolling stock and rail-related projects. You will work closely with mechanical, structural, and systems engineers across the full project lifecycle, from concept and layout development to manufacturing support, installation, and revisions during execution.

This role operates in a delivery-driven rail environment where coordination is complex and responsiveness is essential. You will be expected to manage multiple drawing packages and updates under schedule pressure, without compromising accuracy, quality, or documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Produce part drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings for manufacturing and on-site execution.
  • Prepare layout drawings for client review and internal coordination.
  • Update and revise drawings to reflect design changes, field conditions, and project evolution.
  • Support preliminary layouts and drawings for material take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Develop coordinated layouts for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and auxiliary systems as required.
  • Deliver clear, complete drawing packages to support production, installation, and refurbishment activities.
  • Support R&D activities, tooling, jigs, and production aids as needed.
  • Maintain organized and traceable drawing documentation in accordance with internal standards and PDM practices.

This role requires strong attention to detail, drafting discipline, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven rail environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, or a related technical role.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (mandatory).
  • Experience producing manufacturing and installation drawings.
  • Familiarity with industrial, transportation, or rolling stock environments is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, assemblies, tolerances, and basic manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

How You Work

  • You are detail-oriented and disciplined in your drafting work.
  • You manage revisions and updates methodically.
  • You communicate clearly with engineers, production teams, and project managers.
  • You stay effective under time pressure and shifting priorities.
  • You take ownership of drawing quality and follow through.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday.
  • On-site presence at the CRWS Montréal office.
  • Occasional site visits or work at client facilities may be required.
  • Flexibility required to meet project deadlines typical of the rail industry.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Group insurance and health benefits.
  • RRSP or retirement savings plan.
  • Paid vacation and 10 personal days per year.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
  • Opportunity to work on complex rolling stock projects across North America.

Why Join CRWS

  • Work on real-world rolling stock projects with tangible outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with experienced engineers and designers.
  • Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of rail vehicle projects.
  • Grow your technical skills in a structured, high-performance engineering environment.

How To Apply

Submit your resume and a brief overview of your experience in mechanical design or drafting for industrial, transportation, or rolling stock projects.
