This position is located in Mackenzie Place, a Type B (DSL4) facility which houses 69 Residents and 2 Community Respite spaces. Under the direction and supervision of a regulated healthcare professional, and working within the Home Care Interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and safety of the client and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. The HCA embraces the philosophy of person-centered care, demonstrating the principles of the philosophy established within AHS policies and procedures and established standards. The HCA recognizes that each client has unique values and personal history and that each person has an equal right to dignity, respect, and to participate fully in their environment. The HCA is responsible for creating partnerships and relationships with clients, families and coworkers that will lead to the best outcomes and enhance quality of life. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.
Required Qualifications: Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
