Are you interested in taking your nursing practice in a challenging new direction? As a Licensed Practical Nurse with a perioperative specialty, you provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery. Perioperative nurses are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room, monitoring the patient during surgery and coordinating care throughout the process. This post-diploma certificate prepares you to work alongside surgeons and other health care professionals in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment—the operating room. This post-diploma certificate combines online delivery with in-person labs, and in person on site training at GPRH ensuring you have the hands-on skills you need to practice perioperative nursing. Followed by a comprehensive Preceptorship and Orientation on site in the GPRH OR upon successful completion of the Periop Certificate program. The program is composed of online courses that provide registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with the fundamental skills required to work alongside surgeons and other health care professionals in a challenging, fast-paced and team-oriented environment—the operating room. Cohort 51- All 5 courses in the program are offered online. These courses are scheduled over the fall, winter and spring/summer terms and must be completed in specific sequence. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. There are 4 positions available.

You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
