Job Summary

We are seeking experienced professionals interested in a future opportunity with TYLin as a Bus Rapid Transit Lead; while interviews may not occur immediately, we are keen to connect with individuals who anticipate being ready to make a career move within the next three to six months.

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lead will guide the planning, design, and delivery of major BRT and rapid bus programs across Canada. This role is ideal for a senior practitioner with deep experience in corridor planning, transit priority design, operations, and multi modal integration.

You will serve as a technical and strategic leader, supporting clients through early planning, business case development, preliminary and detailed design, and implementation of BRT and rapid transit projects. You will also help shape the growth of our national transit practice.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the planning and design of BRT corridors, transit priority measures, stations, terminals, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Oversee development of operational concepts, service plans, and fleet/operations modelling.
  • Guide corridor design, including dedicated lanes, queue jumps, transit signal priority, active transportation integration, and streetscape elements.
  • Provide senior technical review of design packages, reports, and engineering deliverables.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through feasibility studies, functional design, and implementation planning.
  • Support procurement activities, including technical requirements, evaluation criteria, and design‑build or P3 advisory.
  • Contribute to the growth of TYLin’s national BRT and rapid transit portfolio.
  • Support business development, proposal strategy, and client relationship management.
  • Mentor and develop junior and intermediate transit planners and engineers.
  • Advance internal best practices for BRT design, transit priority, and multimodal integration.
  • Coordinate with specialists in traffic engineering, ITS, transit signal priority, civil design, and urban design.
  • Ensure integration with rail, LRT, active transportation, and regional mobility networks.
  • Support operational readiness, commissioning planning, and service launch activities.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in transit planning, BRT design, or major corridor projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia.
  • Proven leadership delivering BRT, rapid bus, or transit priority projects in Canada or internationally.
  • Strong understanding of complete streets, multimodal design, traffic operations, and transit signal priority.
  • Advance understanding of bus systems, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and operations & maintenance considerations.
  • Experience working with Canadian transit agencies and regional municipalities is an asset.
  • Comprhensive knowledge of bus fleet conversion processes, including transitions to low‑or zero‑emission vehicles, related infrastructure upgrades, and operational integration
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to clients, stakeholders, and the public.
