Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer designs and develops mechanical systems and drawing packages for advanced training and simulation products. The position involves end-to-end mechanical design, from concept development and modeling through detailed drawings, fabrication support, and assembly issue resolution.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for advanced training and simulation products, focusing on both new development and improvement of existing simulators.
- Document and review mechanical design specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
- Develop mechanical design concepts using Autodesk Inventor and other CAD tools, applying appropriate modeling techniques and design architectures.
- Create preliminary and detailed 3D models in Autodesk Inventor in accordance with internal standards and best practices.
- Produce detailed part drawings and assembly drawings that comply with internal drawing standards and support accurate fabrication and assembly.
- Organize, manage, and release models and drawings following internal procedures and configuration control processes.
- Incorporate design changes based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that updates are accurately reflected in models and drawings.
- Prepare complete fabrication drawing packages and specifications to support sub-contractor quoting and manufacturing activities.
- Work closely with fabricators and machine shops to clarify design intent, address manufacturability concerns, and ensure high-quality products.
- Inspect fabricated parts and assemblies through physical configuration audits to verify conformance to drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate closely with the assembly team to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve design-related assembly issues in a timely manner.
- Log, track, and manage Engineering Changes and Waivers in accordance with internal processes and configuration management requirements.
- Apply skeleton modeling or top-down modeling techniques to manage complex assemblies and maintain design integrity.
- Use GD&T callouts and perform tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability of components and assemblies.
- Apply relevant welding standards to welded structures and assemblies in the design.
- Use PDM software and methods, such as Autodesk Vault, to manage CAD data, revisions, and access control.
- Utilize static and dynamic structural FEA tools to support structural analysis and validate design decisions.
- Participate in cross-functional collaboration with systems engineering, mechanical design, and assembly teams to deliver integrated training and simulation solutions.
- Communicate design decisions, issues, and status clearly and professionally with team members and stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of organization, meet deadlines, and ensure strong attention to detail throughout the design and documentation process.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience.
- 3+ years of experience with any CAD software.
- At least 1 year of recent experience (within the last 5–10 years) using Autodesk Inventor.
Work Environment
The role is based in Halifax, 3 days per week in office, hybrid schedule

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
