Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer designs and develops mechanical systems and drawing packages for advanced training and simulation products. The position involves end-to-end mechanical design, from concept development and modeling through detailed drawings, fabrication support, and assembly issue resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems for advanced training and simulation products, focusing on both new development and improvement of existing simulators.
  • Document and review mechanical design specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop mechanical design concepts using Autodesk Inventor and other CAD tools, applying appropriate modeling techniques and design architectures.
  • Create preliminary and detailed 3D models in Autodesk Inventor in accordance with internal standards and best practices.
  • Produce detailed part drawings and assembly drawings that comply with internal drawing standards and support accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Organize, manage, and release models and drawings following internal procedures and configuration control processes.
  • Incorporate design changes based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that updates are accurately reflected in models and drawings.
  • Prepare complete fabrication drawing packages and specifications to support sub-contractor quoting and manufacturing activities.
  • Work closely with fabricators and machine shops to clarify design intent, address manufacturability concerns, and ensure high-quality products.
  • Inspect fabricated parts and assemblies through physical configuration audits to verify conformance to drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with the assembly team to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve design-related assembly issues in a timely manner.
  • Log, track, and manage Engineering Changes and Waivers in accordance with internal processes and configuration management requirements.
  • Apply skeleton modeling or top-down modeling techniques to manage complex assemblies and maintain design integrity.
  • Use GD&T callouts and perform tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability of components and assemblies.
  • Apply relevant welding standards to welded structures and assemblies in the design.
  • Use PDM software and methods, such as Autodesk Vault, to manage CAD data, revisions, and access control.
  • Utilize static and dynamic structural FEA tools to support structural analysis and validate design decisions.
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration with systems engineering, mechanical design, and assembly teams to deliver integrated training and simulation solutions.
  • Communicate design decisions, issues, and status clearly and professionally with team members and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, meet deadlines, and ensure strong attention to detail throughout the design and documentation process.

Essential Skills
