Job Description

The incumbent will provide clinical addiction services adult and youth. The primary goal of this position will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help with substance use problems by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery therapies. These services will be delivered through a combination of direct services, consultation, community resource development and education. The incumbent will work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include providing informational programming, as well as individual and group counselling with relevant youth, family and community members. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement treatment plans to assist clients in reaching their recovery goals. The position may provide services to youth with significant substance use / abuse issues in order to prevent the need for orders under the Youth Drug Detoxification and Stabilization Act (YDDSA).

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Chemical Dependency Studies
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of addictions issues and the effects on the family unit.
  • Ability to facilitate educational and skill development groups.
  • Ability to accurately assess addictions and / or addiction related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health and addictions, as well as addiction related issues and the effects on the individual, family unit and community, including co-current disorders and the issues related to gambling addictions.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Addictions specific twelve core functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct individual and group counselling / educational programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model, the transtheoretical Model of Change and the Development Model of Recovery (SMRS).
  • Knowledge of best practices in addiction field and harm reduction strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of various provincially legislated acts and regulations, including but not limited to The Youth Drug Detoxification and Stabilization Act.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community development principles and the relationship between population health promotion strategies and community development approaches.
  • Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients and community.
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage time and stress
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Ability to collect, record and report comprehensive client information accurately in verbal, written and electronic formats in accordance with professional standards and guidelines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO / HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
