Position Summary
Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc. is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Chetwynd, BC.
Main Responsibilities
- Complete work as directed by Shop Foreman / Lead Head.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in heavy / highway construction and construction material plants.
- Maintain wide range of equipment and troubleshoot malfunction from a mechanical, electric and electronic standpoint.
- Operate various types of construction equipment to evaluate condition.
- Maintain a clean job site : pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
- Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
- Operate metal cutting, machining, and welding equipment (oxyacetylene, electric, arc welding) for repair of mechanical equipment and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Weld, braz, solder, and cut steel, copper, cast aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and other metals and alloys and provide emergency on‑site or schedule shop repair and metal work.
- Design, fashion, and forge new tools, iron work, and metal parts; modify existing equipment for special purposes.
- Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Attend Safety Meetings and meet training goals for job role and advancement.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum four (4) years experience working within a shop environment.Minimum two (2) years experience working as a mechanic on construction equipment.Minimum two (2) years of field experience.Red Seal Certification. 4th year apprentice mechanic may apply.Can work independently with minimal supervision.Excellent planning and organizational skills.Excellent verbal communication skills.Good computer skills in troubleshooting equipment software.Must be a strong team player, with strong customer service orientation.Ability to travel the region to support other locations (i.e., Fort St. John or Prince George as needed).Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Willing to work in field and in all weather conditions.Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.Ability to utilize hands and fingers in performing repair and maintenance tasks on construction equipment.Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday.Ability to lift and carry 50 lb.Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed.Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction.The noise level on shop floor and around equipment may be loud.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.This is a safety sensitive position; selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as required.Compensation
The anticipated wage for this position is minimum $46.18 CAD. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
