POSITION : Learning Assistance Teacher - temporary
ASSIGNMENT : Elementary (K-7). Supporting students in small groups with specific learning needs for literacy and numeracy.
FTE : 0.4
LOCATION : Bouchie Lake Elementary School
EFFECTIVE DATES : Commencing January 21, 2025 until April 23, 2025, or earlier depending on the return of the incumbent with possibility of extension or reduction in FTE.
Basic Qualifications : The successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch AND possesses one or more of the following :
Training Specialization : Elementary Education with a specialization in Special Education
Related Teaching Experience :
- Recent successful experience teaching in Learning Assistance at the Elementary Level
- Experience providing programs for learning support
A Reasonable Expectation : based on a teacher's skills, abilities, professional development and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff

A learning assistance teacher ideally has a major in Special Education. Specific experience and training in supporting neurodiverse students is desirable.
The candidate should be able to provide demonstrated experience and ability in the following :A demonstrated ability to support planning that allows access to the curriculum for all studentsAbility to model instructional strategies which address a wide range of neurodiversityAbility to lead teams, liaise with outside agencies and maintain extensive records of meetingsAbility to support classroom teachers to integrate technology for the purpose of providing access to the curriculum for all studentsCollaboratively develop and assess programs and IEPs for students with certain identified needsTraining and experience in administering curriculum-based assessment and standardized assessmentsWriting summaries of assessment resultsFacilitating communication and coordinating services and resources through a school-based and working team modelMaintaining accurate and current records for certain groups of students receiving support services according to Ministry and District guidelinesOffering instructional support in or out of the classroom using resources appropriate for individual student needs and in accordance with Ministry expectationsTracking students with special needs from year to year and ensuring students are accurately categorized according to Ministry and District guidelinesFollowing all policies, procedures and guidelines for Special Education services as defined in the Ministry of Education Manual of Special Education Services.The learning assistance teacher provides services to students and staff in the regular classroom as well as alternate environments and must be able to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with classroom teachers, principals, the school-based team, special education assistants, district staff and others.
The annual salary for the full-time Teacher ranges from $61,175 to $109,529 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.
