Job description

Our client in the public sector is seeking a contract based Technical Writer to work on ecological risk-based assessments related to Marine areas.

Duration : 8 months

Location : Hybrid Ottawa

Bilingual : EN / FR

Responsibilities

  • Develop Ecological Risk Assessments : Create assessments of ecological risk to species, habitats, and community properties, considering existing and potential future activities and stressors.
  • Ensure alignment with Department of Fisheries and Ocean’s National Risk Assessment Guidelines.
  • Incorporate pathways of effects and risk scoring methodologies.
  • Arctic Marine Ecosystems : Apply expertise in Arctic marine species and ecosystems to ensure assessments are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Science Advisory Support : Provide science advice through the CSAS process or interpret CSAS advice for inclusion in reports and publications. Facilitate the integration of ecological risk findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Technical Writing : Deliver high-quality, clear, and accurate technical documents and reports. Adhere to DFO and federal standards for technical documentation and publication.

Requirements

  • Bilingual : English / French
  • Expertise in ecological risk-based assessments, including pathways of effects and risk scoring.
  • Proficiency in assessing ecological risk to species, habitats, and ecosystems within the context of marine areas.
  • Familiarity with federal risk guidance such as DFO Marine Planning and Conservation National Risk Assessment Guidelines.
  • In-depth knowledge of Arctic marine species and ecosystems.
  • Experience providing advice through the Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat (CSAS) process or interpreting CSAS outputs for technical reports.
  • Strong ability to translate complex scientific analyses into clear, concise technical documents.
  • Demonstrated experience working with federal clients on marine or ecological projects is an asset.
