What will you be doing as the Accessibility Curator

Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager the Accessibility Curator is responsible for developing an accessibility strategy for Pride Toronto with a focus on three main areas:
  1. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance and continuous accessibility improvement
  2. Organization-wide accessibility implementation across internal operations and Festival programming.
  3. Monitoring and evaluation of accessibility implementations to ensure equitable access including impact measurement and guiding continuous improvements that meet community needs.

Given the size scope and responsibility that the Festival entails the successful candidate will work effectively with the Community Engagement Manager and Operations team who are responsible for developing elements of the Festival and managing the activities of the year-round volunteer and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead and curate Pride Torontos accessibility spaces at the Festival including but not limited to arranging wheel trans mobile assistant rentals booking ASL etc.
  • Review festival activations and encourage opportunities to increase access needs
  • Research current accessibility procedures and suggest access implementations to various departments at Pride Toronto.
  • Review and recommend up to date policies and procedures to ensure Pride Toronto is AODA compliant.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Manager to create schedules for Accessibility Liaison(s) ASL interpreters and Attendant care personnel for the Festival weekend.
  • Manage the Accessibility Hub during the Festival Weekend including set up and tear down.
  • Create and conduct accessibility trainings for staff and volunteers on the importance of accessibility and how to work with community members who have various access needs.
  • Manage a team of volunteers and liaisons during the Festival Weekend who will help to implement accessibility recommendations to achieve organizational accessibility goals.
  • Attend and lead all Accessibility advisory committee meetings to include working with theadvisory committee to address accessibility concerns at Pride Toronto.
  • Create and implement a successful access request form for community members and staff torequest access for meetings events (internal and external) and other needs as identified.
  • Review the current accessibility checklist and make recommendations to ensure all areas of accessibility are being thought of organization-wide.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Manager to create a short and long term strategy that supports the expansion of our accessibility pillar both internally and externally .
  • Prepare a final Accessibility Report summarizing findings and providing actionable recommendations at the conclusion of the contract.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Community Engagement Manager.
  • Assist in the seamless delivery of the Pride produced events leading up to and including the Festival and ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Provide post-Festival support and undertake any other tasks as required to contribute to the overall success of Pride Toronto.

What are we looking for

  • Well versed on AODA compliance requirements.
  • Committed to representing the spectrum of abilities covered by the AODA
  • Demonstrated experience in accessibility compliance event planning and project management with a minimum of 3 years in one or more of these areas.
  • Ability to communicate clearly work effectively with others and navigate complex challenges.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Lived experience of disability and or strong relationships with disability communities is a strong asset.
  • Assist in the seamless delivery of the Pride produced events leading up to and including the Festival and including timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Proactive self-starter who has strong administration skills takes ownership of tasks drives them to completion and ensures high-quality timely results.

Nice to haves:

  • A valid G drivers license.
  • Familiarity with Pride Toronto.
  • Experience working with 2SLGBTQI communities.
  • Familiarity with Zone Festival or other event software G-Suite and Asana.
