Job description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Indigenous Implementation Lead, the Indigenous Implementation Coordinator works as a member of the Kickstand Provincial Implementation Team to help support expansion of the Kickstand integrated youth services Indigenous Network. Kickstand’s Indigenous Implementation Team is tasked with the successful exploration, development, implementation, and evaluation of a network of Kickstand Indigenous Hubs situated within Indigenous Communities and supporting the effective delivery of Indigenous health and wellbeing services and supports within the Network of Kickstand Centres located across the province. This work relies heavily on intentional partnerships and the collective impact that is required to transform access to care for young Indigenous people and their families / caregivers.

This position is responsible for working with the Indigenous Lead and the Cultural Advisory Committee to develop a comprehensive definition and operational parameters for an Indigenous Wellness Service Model. The Indigenous Implementation Coordinator works collaboratively with Kickstand’s Indigenous Implementation Lead and stakeholders to achieve these goals. The Indigenous Implementation Coordinator is passionate about community building and utilizing implementation methods and strategies to facilitate community program and initiative development for Indigenous youth. This role will also adopt a co-design approach to gather meaningful, quality feedback and engagement with Indigenous young people and families / caregivers to inform the continued development of the Kickstand Indigenous Implementation Stream across Alberta.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Advance the understanding of Kickstand’s Indigenous implementation strategy and priorities
  • Develop Terms of Reference and recruitment process for the establishment of an Indigenous Cultural Advisory Committee
  • Coordinate meetings with Kickstand site leads, Indigenous Agency Partners and Cultural Advisory Meetings to develop a service definition for Indigenous Wellness
  • Plan and organize meetings and activities with nations
  • Assist in preparation and launch of on-Nation Kickstand Centre expansion and Indigenous Wellness Service program at Kickstand sites.
  • Facilitate ongoing consultation with local Indigenous agency partners, evaluation and modification of the pilot
  • Work directly with current and future Kickstand Indigenous centres to support key implementation processes for the expansion of Indigenous wellness services for youth in each community
  • Maintain a key focus on principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization through implementation process and support current and future Kickstand physical locations to integrate said principles
  • Work autonomously while maintaining alignment, accountability and collaboration with other key members of the team and monitor and report progress on the status of assigned duties against timelines and project plans
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills as unforeseen events arise

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to Health Care, Community Development, Policy, or Leadership and at least two (2) years of experience in the non-profit sector.
  • Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations, Indigenous communities and / or Indigenous people, experience delivering client-centered care, or experience working with or in an integrated youth services initiative would be considered strong assets.
  • Experience working with individuals with lived experience of mental health would be considered a strong asset.
  • Certification or training in implementation science and change management would be considered a strong asset.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License required. Access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes is preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, programs, and services including within Alberta healthcare and social service systems
  • Exceptional group facilitation and communication skills including demonstrated professionalism, tact, good judgment, and diplomacy in interactions with senior leaders, both internally and within the community
  • Comfortable communicating formally, informally, in groups and one-on-one
  • Ability to obtain and share information, ideas, and problems and ask for advice, support, and feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships, work flexibly across professional and operational boundaries and communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Relationship-centered with a get-it-done attitude and working hands-on when required
  • Able to define expectations for self and others and the act to fulfill these expectations (self-reflect, monitor, and correct own actions)
  • Self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment of frequent change and ambiguous landscape
  • Proven commitment to promoting and supporting a psychologically safe workplace
  • Excellent computer skills required (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Candidates who identify as Indigenous or have cultural knowledge are preferred.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to communities throughout Alberta

  • Compensation will depend on experience and fit for the position (plus benefits, with room for growth).
  • This is a hybrid position with some required in-person meetings and flexibility to work from home.
