Emergency Physician

Overview

Emergency Physician role at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). The Department of Emergency Medicine at Vancouver Acute covers the VGH (Vancouver General Hospital) Emergency Department and the UBC Hospital Emergency Department. The team seeks an Emergency Physician to join their group to provide care in a large urban, academic centre.

The VGH Emergency Department sees approximately 95,000 patients per year and houses a Level 1 Trauma Centre. The UBC Hospital Emergency Department serves the west end of Vancouver and sees over 23,000 patients per year, including pediatric patients. This provides a diverse and professionally rewarding career.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency medical care at VGH and UBC Hospitals as part of an academic, collegial Emergency Medicine group.
• Contribute to teaching medical students and residents on shift; participate in academic activities and research as appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care in a high acuity, high volume environment.
• Engage in quality improvement, administration, or other scholarly pursuits to advance the field of emergency medicine.
• Commit to a minimum of 6 shifts per month with a mix of day, evening, and night shifts across both sites; opportunity to take on additional shifts.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice in British Columbia (CPSBC Full).
• FRCPC-EM qualified, or hold CCFP-EM or ABEM certification with at least 5 years of experience in a high acuity, high volume centre.
• Experience in a hospital-based emergency department; ACLS/ATLS/PALS as appropriate (ACLS, ATLS, PAL - desired).
• Interest in teaching, research, quality improvement, or administration is valued.

Education, Licensing, & Experience

• Current CPSBC Full license.
• CCFP-EM or ABEM certification (desirable or required as noted).
• CMPA membership (mandatory).
• Emergency medicine experience desired.
• ACLS and ATLS; PAL desired.

Compensation & Contract

Compensation is based on an Alternate Payment Arrangement contract, consistent with full-time emergency physicians in British Columbia; not fee-for-service. Details provided to interested candidates.

July 2026 or sooner.
