About the Role
This role is a primary Manufacturing Engineering contact to the day shift production team, focused on quality and reliability within the cell, in addition to on time delivery. This person is integral to the daily success of the shop floor team and is responsible for using root cause analysis tools to resolve production issues quickly and completely. The successful candidate will be focused on the verification and alignment of optical subassemblies or systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Act as a point of contact to Manufacturing team for assistance in troubleshooting and resolving electro-mechanical and electro optical manufacturing issues.
- Create and maintain documentation to support manufacturing changes, including test procedures, Work Instructions and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) authoring.
- Attend and provide responses to daily cell standup meetings.
- Participate in daily cell MRB meetings, including supporting closure of NCRs and disposition of non-conforming material.
- Responsible for the maintenance of manufacturing processes and procedures for WESCAM products. This includes the creation of PFMEA, SPC, First Pass Approval (FPA), control plans, tooling and test procedures.
- Reviewing change requests generated by engineering and production staff for impact to process, product flow, product quality and documentation, and implement changes as required.
- Conduct 8D root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Support translation of product specifications from Engineering to Manufacturing procedures.
- Leadership and support for continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
- Support any other business priorities as required by Operations Engineering leadership
Required Capabilities
Excellent knowledge of Systems, Electro-Mechanical, Electro-Optical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering.Technical communication skills both verbal and written.Good knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.Able to troubleshoot and “real-time" problem solve manufacturing issues.Must be well organized, goal oriented and able to give attention to detail.Able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.Able to read and understand Mechanical drawings and Electrical schematics.AS9100 knowledge and experience an asset, but not required.Experience using Matlab, an asset, but not required.Desired Education and Experiences
Must have a well-rounded optical background with manufacturing engineering experience in a high tech environment.University degree; or 3-year College diploma in Engineering Physics, Physics, Aerospace, Mechatronics or Optics coupled with relevant work experience in Optics or Manufacturing Engineering.Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment.Green Belt Certification or equivalent industry lean experience an asset, but not required.
